Unsworth Joins Blades

Former Town loanee David Unsworth has signed a three-year deal with Sheffield United. Town were keen on the 31-year-old earlier in the summer but gave up the chase after Portsmouth stalled on settling the former Everton man's contract.

Last week Unsworth finally left Pompey after they paid £500,000 to write-off the final year of his Fratton Park deal.

Blades boss Neil Warnock is pleased to capture the one-time England international on a free transfer: "I'm delighted to have someone like David as part of my squad.

"His experience will be invaluable to the squad, as will the fact that he can play in a number of positions.

"He had options to join other clubs but he has seen the start we have made and wants to go straight back to the Premiership with us."

Meanwhile, Millwall, Town's next league opponents, have signed Wolves keeper Paul Jones on a one-month loan. Jones comes in as cover for ex-Blue Andy Marshall who was sent off against Reading at the weekend.
