Town's reserves lost 3-1 at Fulham's Motspur Park training ground on Tuesday night. Dean Bowditch scored for the Blues from the penalty spot in the 76th minute to put Town back on terms after Heidar Helguson had put the home side ahead but the Cottagers netted twice more late on through Yinka Casal and Helguson again.

Assistant manager Willie Donachie told the club site that the young reserve side did well despite the defeat: "The boys played some terrific football and didn't deserve to lose against a strong Fulham side that included Premiership players.

"We were really pleased with them and there were a number of positives to take out of the game.

"Jimmy Juan had an excellent game in the middle of the park, Scott Barron was full of running and Dean McDonald busy as usual.

"Jay McEveley had his first game for us and, although he looked a bit rusty and was at fault for one of the goals, he will be better for the run out.

"We know he's not match fit at the moment and he lacked the sharpness that comes with playing games, but we have two weeks before our next league match and we'll use that to get him in the right condition.

"He will do some high intensity work with Simon Thadani and we have another reserve team game next week so he'll get another 90 minutes under his belt then."

Striker Dean Bowditch was pleased with his goal and says he is determined to win himself a first team place after being left out of the Millwall and Preston games: "Leaving me out on Saturday was really disappointing and then not to get on against Preston was very frustrating.

"I just want to play football because I love the game, so this is really hard for me.

"I'm working my socks off in training and it us just not happening, although I know it's up to me to find a way of making it happen.

"I have spoken with the manager and really all I can do is take on board what he says and try my best to make it work.

"I have to find a way of impressing him. There is obviously something he doesn't like and I have to find what it is and try and impress him."
