Boss Joe Royle has confirmed that he is considering taking sacked former Sheffield Wednesday striker Adam Proudlock on trial. The 24-year-old was dismissed by the Owls earlier this week for a number of breaches of club conduct, the latest being his failure to turn up to training on Sunday.

Royle says he has spoken to Wednesday regarding Proudlock's situation but is yet to make any approach to the player: "He is a free agent but at this moment in time I have not taken my interest any further.

"I've thought about Adam and although I haven't taken it any further than that it doesn't mean I won't do at some stage.

"I remember him as a young player at Wolves and he impressed me. I know things have gone a bit awry for him but players can be rehabilitated."

Proudlock has a colourful past having been charged with affray after an incident at a Christmas party in Newport in 2001. He was eventually cleared of that charge by Shrewsbury Crown Court in January 2003 but was fined £250 for the lesser offence of threatening behaviour.

In August 2004 the striker was dropped and transfer listed by former Wednesday manager Chris Turner after being involved in a car accident on the morning of a game having travelled back to the Midlands for a social function the previous evening.
