Chairman: No Player Sales

David Sheepshanks says the club will not need to sell any players in January. The chairman even suggests that Town may have the cash to make a permanent signing when the transfer window opens.

Sheepshanks said: "There are no plans to sell any current first team player this season. Nor is there any need.

"We have to caveat that by saying, ultimately in our position as a club, you can never say never, but we have no intention of selling any of our best young players this season."

West Ham are very keen on young midfielder Owen Garvan and were close to making a £1 million bid for the Irishman before the closure of the summer transfer window.

Sheepshanks says that the cash is there to make short-term signings now and possibly recruit a longer-term addition to the squad later on in the season: "There is ample money to secure a loan or two, depending on the ability of that player, and Joe will judge the timing and the availability of the right player."

Manager Joe Royle has been on the look-out for a loan striker during Nicky Forster's absence, while a loan midfielder is also being considered as cover for Ian Westlake, out of action until December.
