Sacked Sheffield Wednesday striker Adam Proudlock is joining Town on a week's trial from Monday. The 24-year-old was released by the Owls earlier in the month for a number of breaches of club discipline, the latest his failure to attend a Sunday training session.

Boss Joe Royle told the club site: "We will have Adam here next week and look at him during that time.

"He was released by Sheffield Wednesday for a breach of club rules but that's in the past now and he's now looking for a clean start.

"All that we are interested in at the moment is his football ability and we'll get an idea of that next week."

The 6ft-tall frontman started his career with Wolves before moving on loan to Clyde, Nottingham Forest, Tranmere and then Wednesday, making his move to South Yorkshire a permanent one for £150,000 in September 2003.

Proudlock has a colourful past, having been charged with affray after an incident at a Christmas party in Newport in 2001. He was eventually cleared by Shrewsbury Crown Court in January 2003 but was fined £250 for the lesser offence of threatening behaviour.

In August 2004 the striker was dropped and transfer listed by former Wednesday manager Chris Turner after being involved in a car accident on the morning of a game having travelled back to the Midlands for a social function the previous evening.

The frontman came on as a sub for Wednesday against Town at Portman Road earlier in the season.
