Portman Road is not on the list of venues in the running to host games at the 2007 UEFA U21 Championship, according to the FA. Town chairman David Sheepshanks was quoted earlier today saying that Portman Road would be amongst the contenders to host a match should the FA be successful in winning its bid to host the competition.

The FA's website lists eight grounds as potential venues for group matches and says the tournament will be held in the Midlands, with the only exception the final at the new Wembley.

The grounds from which the FA will draw up a short-list are Pride Park, the Walkers Stadium, the City Ground, Meadow Lane, the Ricoh Arena, Molineux, the Britannia Stadium and the Hawthorns.

The UEFA executive committee will make their decision on where to stage the competition on 15th December.
