Town have given on-loan striker Dean McDonald permission to play for Hartlepool in their FA Cup second round tie with Tamworth on Saturday. The Blues will therefore be unable to field McDonald in the competition once the 19-year-old's loan spell at Victoria Park is up.

Pools boss Martin Scott is delighted: "It's great news for us. Dean was superb at Bradford on Saturday and gives us that extra dimension to our play.

"He was unlucky not to score but he was a threat and showed what a good player he is - hopefully he can do so again this weekend."

The Bradford game was McDonald's first start for his temporary club, having made his debut as a sub the previous week at Gillingham.
