De Vos Signs Deal

Central defender Jason De Vos has signed a two-year extension to his Town contract. The Canadian's current deal was set to end this summer.

De Vos, who is expected to be named club captain for 2006/07, told the club site that he wants to take Town back into the top flight: "It is my ambition to play in the Premiership and when I look at the players around me at this club, I see no reason why it can't happen here.

"The progress the young players have made here over the past year has made me feel very confident about the future and, while the play-offs look unlikely this year, I see us as strong challengers for promotion next season.

"If I felt there was a better chance of taking a step up somewhere else then I may have had to give more thought to my future, but that's not the case. This club is heading in the right direction and that made signing the new contract the easiest decision of my career.

"The ambition of the club matches mine, the coaching staff are fantastic and the facilities are first class. We have a terrific fan base and everything is geared towards moving forward.

"My family are settled in the area, which is very important to me, and there is absolutely no reason to leave."

Fellow defender Fabian Wilnis is expected to sign a one-year contract later this week.
