Faroese midfielder Ingi Højsted may return to the Blues after impressing in his two-day trial last week. The midfielder was pencilled in to play in Tuesday's reserve game at Leicester but FA rules prevented the released Birmingham player from taking part.

Assistant boss Willie Donachie says he and Joe Royle are keen to see the 20-year-old in match action: "We'd like to take more of a look at him but we're not sure of the situation."

Højsted has been told he can leave Birmingham having joined them at the beginning of this season and after only 45 minutes of reserve team football.

A full international, Højsted joined Arsenal on a free transfer from hometown club B36 Tórshavn in May 2001, leaving Highbury in the summer of 2004 and rejoining his old side.

The Londoners fought off interest from PSV and a number of other clubs to secure the signature of the then 15-year-old Højsted. Injuries reportedly prevented the all-action midfield player from making an impact at Arsenal.

Højsted, who has also been known to play in defence, is considered the best player to have emerged from the Faroe Islands.
