Belgian international left-back Philippe Léonard claims to have turned down the chance to move to the Blues. The 32-year-old, who has won 19 full caps and featured at Euro 2000, is out of contract having left Standard Liege at the end of last season.

Léonard, previously with Monaco and Nice, is looking for a new club but says that offers from Town, Southampton, Stoke City and French sides Lorient, Istres and Le Mans either meant he would be playing at too low a level or failed to meet his financial demands.

A left-back is known to be on Jim Magilton's summer wish-list, the Town manager having admitted his interest in Leeds' Dan Harding.
