Former Town midfielder Ashley Nicholls scored the winner in his league debut for Darlington on Saturday. Nicholls, released by Town over the summer, netted a fine curling shot from the edge of the area in the 76th minute as the Quakers won 2-1 away at Cambridge.

A stripper has alleged that a number of Town players "behaved like animals" at their Christmas party at the end of last year. Tracey Forge, 31, claimed that drunken players ripped her dress and threw beer over her at the bash in Colchester.

Town skipper Matt Holland has admitted that Town may be in no position to turn down an offer for him. George Burley and David Sheepshanks have consistently said that Holland is the last player they'd want to lose but the Town skipper says that economic reality may mean he leaves.

Town got off their season off to a winning start as goals from Darren Ambrose and Marcus Bent brought victory against Walsall at the Bescot Stadium. The Blues rarely seemed in trouble despite playing the last 23 minutes with only ten players, Darren Ambrose having gone off with a cut to the mouth.
