Hong Kong Meet Up For Saturday
at 12:09 14 Dec 2023

Apparently the Singapore Blues are meeting up for the match. so surely we can do the same.

Does anybody know if the match is being shown here in a HK bar, and if there's a gathering anywhere?

TWTD Hive Mind: Suffolk Villages to Live
at 04:02 4 May 2023

Ladies and Gents,

I am planning my return to the beautiful county of Suffolk after more than 30 years in the east. But things have changed too much in this time for me to have any real perspective on places to live.

So who better to ask, than the lads and lasses of TWTD spread over the county who can help guide me with some ideas.

Here's what I'm looking for:

Location: Suffolk. I really do not have a preference where in this fine land it should be. But I would like to remain in the county.
Village life, with at least one local pub.
Community feel, friendly people (goes without saying everyone is friendly I'm sure)

That's about it really. During my summer visit I will look around the area and try to zero in on a few options. So hopefully with the guidance of local knowledge on this forum, I can start to put a plan together.

Thank you all.

House Renovation / Designer and Builder
at 05:56 22 Apr 2022

Dear TWTD friends,

Have any of you had a positive experience with a house renovation builder you can recommend in Ipswich? Or know of anybody who has a good recommendation for a project manager?

Am looking for a bungalow complete redesign and refurb. Maybe there's even some builders on here who can help.

Cheers all.

Closing out the game
at 11:24 23 Jan 2022

I just realised that during those last 10 minutes or so, I never felt nervous that we were about to concede. I also didn't get the impression that the crowd were tense either, like the way it usually feels when we're one goal up,. Although that's hard to tell on iFollow.

It seems like we actually had a plan as to how to close out the game, and were in complete control.

Add to that the fact we didn't look even remotely bullied by a big (size) team, plus a win after going behind, that was a fantastic result and performance in just Mckenna's 4th match.

Something's brewing down at Portman Road, and it smells exciting.

3 Victories to 3 Weeks Quarantine
at 12:23 4 Nov 2021

While I sit in day 10 of my enforced 3 week isolated quarantine, please excuse the self indulgence so I can release some boredom, reminisce about happier times, and write a thank you to ITFC for an amazing experience with 2 of my boys (19+27), one of which I hadn’t seen in more than 2 years due to travel constraints.

With the HK quarantine rules not relaxing, I finally had to bite the bullet and make the trip with son 2 to settle him into university. Having fixed the flights, I then went to check what matches were on during the time I was back (Oct 6th-24th), being: Shrewsbury, Cambridge, Portsmouth, Fleetwood. With the need to actually do some other stuff while I was back, I decided to forego Cambridge, and plan for the other 3.

Son 1 was already an Ipswich fan as I raised him right. His lifetime fanship was cemented at his first live match on 17th August 2002, with our 6-1 drubbing of Leicester. I was therefore hoping for the same for son 2 vs Shrewsbury for his first ever real live football match.

As a side note, it should be said that raising any child overseas to be an Ipswich fan where the schools are filled with kids supporting the top 6 teams has not been the easiest these last 25 years. Not wanting to make excuses for the poor football upbringing of son 2, but just stating the facts. On the brighter side, he does not really have a favourite team, so the chance to cement him as a Town fan was still open.

So we arrive at Portman Road on the 9th which coincided with my birthday, had a burger with Sir Alf, then headed high up into the Pioneer stand opposite where I used to sit with my Dad back in the late 70’s early 80’s. Nostalgia flooding back. We score first, then the typical equalizer after a defensive error. With tenseness palpable in the air, victory is secured with Bonne’s beautiful head.

Onto Pompey where we met an old HK mate (Pompey fan) I haven’t seen for 6 years since he left, who sportingly agreed to sit in the Milton End with us directly behind the goal. Needless to say much fun was had, and as with most of the Pompey fans by the end of the night, he had joined the singing blue army with a look of utter bemusement on his face I’ll remember forever.

The day before I flew back was Fleetwood. Praying for a 3 out of 3, I was almost expectant that it had to happen. How could the gods make it any other way, it just wouldn’t be right. At 1-1 with five minutes of injury time added, I couldn’t help it. I still believed. I needed to believe. I wanted it so much for me and the boys, I wasn’t prepared to think about any other ending. Sitting in the North Stand section 3 we had the perfect view as Evans cross looped in. When I saw Janoi, I knew he was going to connect with the ball. But how and where would it go……….. what a touch, and what an incredible explosion as Celina slotted home. The roar of the stadium and sheer joy in the moment will live with me forever. And I hope, will live with son 2 forever too, as he begins his long and often painful journey as a town fan (with moments of sheer unadulterated bliss which are ALWAYS worth the bad times).

Just as a bonus, yesterday I stayed away from all communications and watched the Wycombe replay on iFollow “live”. Dancing, jumping, cheering and shouting in my isolated room as we ripped apart one of the best teams in the league probably caused my quarantined neighbours some concerns. But that is the one single good thing about these enforced 3 weeks, literally nobody can see me or disturb my madness.

Thank you Ipswich Town Football Club. Thank you for the memories. Thank the new owners and management for bringing the structure, and having the belief in our club to persuade these players to join us. Thank you for the entertaining football, and thank you for allowing us to believe again that great times could be close with a team which is enjoyable to watch, and one we can be proud to support.

2 million people march, in peace
at 01:45 17 Jun 2019

In case there is interest, I feel driven to write something.................

Living here for almost 30 years, I have seen a lot of changes in Hong Kong. But what is happening right now is more powerful than anything i've ever seen in the past.

The 2014 occupy protest was glorious in it's ambition, serene in it's peacefulness, surreal to anybody who experienced it, but ultimately did not change anything.

The people of this great city knew they were at a crossroads. With 2047 closing in, and Beijing tightening its invisible grip, they had to get the message through that they cannot accept their freedom being diminished. The extradition law was just the tip of the iceberg, with much more driving this from below.

A week ago last Sunday, 1 million people marched. At midnight when the right to protest had expired, the police moved in to clear the tens of thousands of protesters who had stayed after the march to gather around government HQ.

Pepper spray and tear gas was used on more than one occasion in the last week to clear peaceful protesters.

All this did was bring more people out.

On Wednesday before the vote on the extradition bill, students went to the government HQ and locked down the centre of Hong Kong once again with sheer numbers. They were once again cleared, which increased the peoples resolve even more.

On Friday Carrie Lam announced the suspension of the extradition bill. But the people still marched yesterday in even higher numbers than the previous week. Because she did not sound sincere, nobody trusts her, and everybody believes she is a Beijing puppet.

2 million people! We only have around 8m living here. A march for freedom, for our independent judiciary, for police to stop hurting it's own people. A march for the future generations, and for the survival of this incredibly free and wonderful city.

Unity. Love. Humanity. Peace.

Interviews
at 03:34 27 Apr 2018

If i'm looking to fill a highly important position, I would interview as many people as possible with a wide ranging degree of skills and experience.

I would imagine the managers role at ITFC is probably quite an important position to fill, and would therefore hope Marcus interviews as many potential candidates as he can to be sure he's done all due diligence, which hopefully leads to the best possible appointment for the club.

Reading some on here spit their dummies and lose their sh1t over some links is highly amusing. It makes me wonder if the numbskulls have been cross breeding with the numpties to create a whole new breed of numishness yet to be officially discovered.

As I read the numbers relating to the Neymar deal....
at 10:36 3 Aug 2017

.... my heart sunk as I realised once and for all I have lost all love with the game.

I will continue to support my home town of ITFC and am so thankful we are where we are.

Just another case of the mega rich exploiting the poor/average man on the street. How can we put our hands in our pockets to empty our wallets to watch men earning 500k per week?

Yes ITFC is not in the best position, but looking at what is happening in the game I'm happy I was born here and support this club.

Set his team up perfectly to beat us and seems to play a nice style of football..... I know nothing apart from what I saw from 4.30am today............

Ideally we would like to be managed by a young manager with new ideas .................. just saying.
