Burton Albion 0-1 Ipswich Town - Match Report
at 23:32:40

A continuation of last season vs long ball teams but with some slightly better quality. Walton class, Harness growing into things. Could have been 3-3 to be fair. Feel for any striker in a system where the two CMs sit 10 feet in front of the 3 CDs: Evans offers nothing meaning Morsy has to constantly drop in to try to receive the ball. Before judging Ladapo ( who should have scored) let's get someone playing near him. But I'm just a dinosaur who thinks football is about positivity and goal threat rather than possession. 3 points and hopefully another 3 on Saturday :)

No need for this. Better off getting another proper Centre forward.

Fraser: I Never Thought I'd Be Played at Left Wing
at 12:58:23

I am prejudiced because I have a major issue with players who can only play as a 10. That is usually shorthand for “I'm a tidy player who hasn't got the work rate or tenacity for CM and isn't fast enough or good enough in front of goal to be a centre forward'. If you are Christian Erickson you can get away with that but Fraser frankly isn't good enough to. If you need everyone else to do your donkey work to shine, play at a lower level. Fraser fits this profile completely and it is clear he wants to be the big cheese and the playmaker without doing the hard yards. Unfortunately I Feel similarly about Celina though I think McKenna may be able to address this. What he certainly didn't need was two of them so this is good judgement I think.

Edmundson: We Played Well Up to the Final Third
at 21:28:59

No we didn't play well up until the final third. We were slow, cautious and negative. Bonne left high and dry with no support against decent CBs. Backwards and sideways slowly apart from a couple of slicker faster moves here and there. No intensity.

Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 Ipswich Town - Match Report
at 08:30:19

If you're going to play a possession based game you need to do it with intensity and purpose or else you just end up letting the opposition get set up and you create nothing. Playing slowly also ‘kills' strikers and I felt for Bonne today. Celina was particularly negative and didn't once take his player on down the outside. I wonder what Harper and Edwards have done to not even considered for pitch time? But it's clear he's developing a style of play and I suppose everything from now on is just building for next season. With better players in key positions, it may work.

Town Place Norwood on Transfer List
at 10:28:10

I'll get shot down in flames for this but I'd have kept Freddie (along with Wilson) and got rid of Jackson in the summer. And once we signed Bonne and Piggott I'd have sold Norwood too. He had promise but lots of behind the scenes issues and injuries not worth the hassle.

Cook: We're Looking For Four, Five or Six More
at 21:32:21

Obviously questioning the wisdom of writing off a whole squad after 4 games, acting like a spoilt child and slagging everyone else off for piss poor performances when a bounce would usually be expected but having the luck to be able to start again from scratch but then blaming lack of new players / need for integration for further piss poor results would be foolish on this site. But then again :). Results will convince me I'm wrong, not words. But I am hopeful I'll be proved wrong and this project is going to work.

Crooks Close to Boro Move - Report
at 09:31:54

We were never getting him as it would have been bonkers fr Rotherham to sell to us. Plus I'm not convinced he's what we need anyway, certainly at that price. Get Dan Cowley in (on a free) and we've got him, Harper and Fraser to compete for the No.10 (and two of them can play deeper). If we can by some miracle keep Downes as well, then our centre is sorted. I'm more concerned about centre back and the wide roles.

Town Linked With Stoke Striker Gregory
at 23:10:25

Back to Lee Gregory I think he'd be a reasonable signing but not quite the level of player to build from moving forwards. We do need a plan B big striker and he's better than Drinan.

Cook: Start of Pre-Season Exciting But Building a Team Can Be a Slow Process
at 15:09:43

Blues1 - stating it and doing it are different things. I accept my view of Cook is negative but that is born out of disgust at how he behaved last season and his inability to get a tune out of some players who contrary to many on here I think actually had/have something to offer. Lambert was poor as was much of the squad but to effectively write the season off because you can't be arsed to work with what was at his disposal was poor. I am prepared to give him time and hope that my original view of him was more accurate than my current one but the jury is out on that. Is he just a telephone coach rather than a proper one - time will tell.

Cook: Start of Pre-Season Exciting But Building a Team Can Be a Slow Process

And regarding recruitment, have we got scouts and analytics. Seems half of our recruitment is based on signing players Cook has managed before (seemingly because they responded to his bluster!).

Cook: Start of Pre-Season Exciting But Building a Team Can Be a Slow Process
at 11:42:33

I agree ElephantintheRoom. There's lots of good stuff been going on around the new ownership etc and I am optimistic about that but the abuse dished out by Cook last season quickly undermined any enthusiasm I'd had on his selection as Manager. There is no place for that type of behaviour, particularly from an alleged experienced Manager. All about him just like McCarthy and Keane. Yes, things needed to change but to throw the good players under the bus with those that clearly needed to go, was just lazy. We were sixth when he started (largely due to Gill) and awful from then on. So, forget the excuses, he has only a certain amount of time to get the team playing good football "his way" before he'll come under close scrutiny. And rather than slag Downes and Woolfie off, how about keeping these two players here and trying to coach them to become better. Maybe the kitman (who doesn't like coaching) will be able to unlock their potential if you can't be arsed.

Lankester Set For Cambridge as Clubs Agree Deal
at 18:20:57

Poor decision and one I'd been Hoping to avoid, but one you'd expect from a ‘telephone coach' like Cook so no surprise. He's bang average if he can't work with and develop the likes of Downes, Lankester and Nydam but then if you can just keep signing your old players it's an easy job I suppose.

Hawkins Moves to Mansfield
at 09:06:03

Good honest pro and if not injured would have had him in the team ahead of Jackson and Drinan as he has a little bit more about him. But that is damned by faint praise. Hope he has a good few years with Clough (a manager we should have been trying to get instead of the dross over the years). Squad is looking a bit light but then again it is only really a quality GK, CB, LB and couple of attackers away from being half decent. Hope we keep Downes, Woolfendon, Lankester and Dobra as they all have loads to give in a team where standards are high and the tempo is good. Fingers crossed. Need to offload Jackson and potentially Drinan though. Not at this level.

Detmer: We Want to Engage Town's Lost Generation
at 08:10:14

I think allowing Paul Cook to get rid of a whole squad, several of whom are excellent home grown prospects with whom "the lost generation" might have an affinity, smacks of the complete lack of understanding of what makes club football in this country unique. Yes we all agree that change was needed but Cook since he arrived has made Paul Hurst look like a footballing genius. I for one am completely turned off by it all. And don't say give him a chance. He's had a reasonable one and blamed a whole squad of players for his inadequacies. Franchise Ipswich - you're welcome to it!

Cook: All the Decisions Have Been Made
at 13:56:43

I think we have a generally poor squad which is also very demotivated and lacking in confidence. But there are decent players in there plus whatever you think about the players it is the managers job to motivate and get the best out of them. From the start Cook has failed to do this and has increasingly blamed them not himself for poor results. If Lambert could get them to 6th what is his excuse? We do have some good players (Judge was one of them) but now seemingly even the young lads don't want to play for him and I don,t blame them. Ridiculous old school bullyboy tactics. If you can't give respect don't expect any back. I wanted the change because Lambert's time was up and I wanted Cook but I am really concerned now. It's like that idiot McCarthy all over again. Dyer said something interesting recently about not trusting coaches who can only play one way and I now wonder whether he's seeing the coaching flaws behind the scenes.

Cook: First Half Possibly the Worst Performance From One of My Teams in My Whole Managerial Career
at 10:59:29

To be fair I think PC has mismanaged this from day one. If the people about to mark me down seriously think management of any kind is about openly disrespecting a whole team of human beings, calling into question all of their commitment and ability to do something they've worked hard at for years (or in the case of the youth have dreamed of for years) and finding yourself unable to stop slagging them off in the most abusive way, then think again. I wanted him for the job but he has lost the plot. If you are Downes would you play for him next year? No chance. Get a modern coach in with modern ideas and start again.

No Further Business as January Window Closes
at 06:33:39

So Lambert is staying but ME has at least strengthened us. He obviously thinks Lambert can get us up though all evidence suggests otherwise. Promotion is a must and I'd have preferred a change (Paul Cook.). But I'm interested to see how these lads do and who gets frozen out. Think it's made for 3511 or 352 (or under Lamberts ponderous passing policy more like 541) but who knows. Some good potential here - fingers crossed.

Ipswich Town 0-1 Sunderland - Match Report
at 11:53:25

Feel for Lambert a bit - Don't get me wrong, I think his time has come and it appears to me he has lost his confidence that he can get us out of this in any case. So time for a change. But the real culprit is Evans. Our scouting is diabolical and his choices of "proper chaps" who play golf and like a laugh with Redknapp and McCarthy continue to beggar belief. Lambert tried to change things but most of this squad is a hangover from previous managers. Lambert has not been backed by Evans so he has had to continue with Hurst's bag of rubbish (aside from Edwards and Nolan on their odd good days), a mixed bag of youth players and McCarthy's left-overs. All this "this squad is one of the best in the league" is delusional. Who are these wonder players? But yes, Lambert has made huge mistakes i.e. treatment of Bialowski, Sears, Donacien, Downes, Woolfenden - or any player that challenges him, and persistence with serial underperformers in Jackson, Nsiala, Huws and Judge (though he does at least try).

Blues Target Preston Midfielder Harrop

We don't need another winger!! We need some strength, pace and guile in CM and full backs. We looked a different team when Downes and Norwood came on. Oh and a different Manager. Had 2 years, we're even worse than we were. Time for a change.
