I know it feels like a long time ago, but I don't think Phil's report just justice to our second goal—that was properly beautiful: great ball by Clarke, perfect cross by Wes, majestically calm finish by Kieffer. Lovely stuff.
But what to say about that second half? Yikes. We were laughing at HT at 3–1, looking like we’re going to score on every attack. And then decided to stop playing in the second half. Abysmal. Blew the lead (although the penalty for the equalizer was a bit of a joke) and deserved nothing. And then got a goal out of nowhere to win it. Three points. Bloody Hell. And Southampton lost.
Phil: another for your ex-player list: Kieffer Moore had a loan spell at Rotherham in 2017 that basically kick-started his career. I bet he'll be desperate to start this one :-)
I don't mean to be a party pooper, but 145th Anniversary?? Oy. Let's wait for the 150th at least. Or is this now an annual holiday? [Eye roll emoji...]
"England's Men's Elite League Squad"? Catchy. That must have been one heck of a committee meeting coming up with that name. Cannot say I can understand the point of the change.
A cup tie against Wolves makes me think of this match from 1976/77:
I would have been ten when it was played, and I think I only remember it because of the Paul Cooper fumble on the line—I think it was my first lesson in supporting your team no matter what! The ball was clearly over the line, but he got away with it. (Didn't matter—we lost the replay.)
I don't mean to be gushy, but I love the account of McK's conversation with Omari. Can you imagine being a 19-year-old and having a serious professional sit you down and say "I've studied you, and here's what you good at, and here's what you can improve at." It must be unbelievable. I wish someone had done that for me!! :-)
1) This highlight package could be five minutes shorter without us losing anything—we don't need three replays of the awarding of a free kick that went nowhere.
2) What a terrible commentator—on each clip he seems to be in the middle of a rambling comment unconnected to the action—say the names! Say the names! It's the basic function of a commentator.
I'm so surprised that Jackson has got ahead of Freddie in the pecking order. And that is a frighteningly strong Leeds side after all the predicted absences!
Such a shame for Flynn that he didn't come up with ITFC when KMc was manager—he would have got so much more out of him. (Also: that Southampton shirt is a horror—it looks like a tea towel!)
One small point of clarification (having the advantage of seeing TV replays): on the Sunderland penalty incident, the ref gave the free kick for handball—it wasn't a dive, just a collision of two players. I thought the ref had a really good match—except for missing the Hirst penalty, which was a stonewaller.
