Gove being lined up as ‘emergency’ PM
at 22:28 24 Mar 2019

"Gove being lined up as emergency PM". This was always fake news. Everyone involved has denied any credence. Its only purpose was to remove from this morning's front-pages pictures showing what was probably the biggest demonstration in British history yesterday:

"It was very much about immigration. ( internal EU nor external EU). I lost count of the number of midland and northern towns and cities where the main comment on why they were voting leave was they were tired of having their children being schooled in a class where over half of the pupils were from other EU countries."

This. Sure there were ignorant xenophobes who voted leave, but this, this was a legitimate grievance. The social contract was broken. Immigration is unequivocally good for the UK. It fills gaps in an ageing workforce, brings fresh ideas and enriches culture. Many of the EU immigrants are well educated, and take the plumb jobs that kids born on sink estates in northern towns simply never had a chance of getting. They went to rubbish schools with little chance of progressing to uni and beyond. Voting leave was not an expression of what was the best policy in regards to the EU, it was an embittered revolt by people left on the scrap-heap.

Remain and reform. Education, education, education. EU membership and free movement of workers is only legitimate if there are fair life chances for people who are already here.

"I'll spend the clubs money as if it were my own" - Paul Hurst
at 13:10 22 Oct 2018

Yes hurst has overspent on the following household items that he still keeps to convince himself they weren't crap buys:
- A computer with processor so slow that it can barely make a simple calculation. Similar to Jon Nolan's football brain.
- A red Ferrari on hire-purchase. A good car, yes, but expensive and he already had exactly that model and colour sitting in his garage. Similar to loaning Chalobah to play def-mid when we already had Skuse.
- An industrial-size sledge-hammer. Sure, occasionally he needed to hammer some bigger nails, but most of the time they're just small tacks. Similar to his entire defence's ability to play a precision short-passing game.

You are a fan of leave in the cause of liberty. Restricting our freedom to continue nearly half our trade will have the opposite result. Don't tell me, we'll make up for it by importing chlorinated beef from USA, opening immigration floodgates from India to allow free trade with them, having zero corporation tax and ending welfare & the NHS. Great plan.

What you don't understand is, we and the rest of the EU have demonstrated these past 60 years that it's possible to be rich capitalists without being so b&stardly cut-throat about it. Prioritising trade with democratic countries that have minimum standards of employment rights, health & safety, human rights, rule of law, freedom of speech, protection of minorities etc isn't just that this is the best ethical strategy for the good of humanity (in a world mostly without these things) - it's economically prudent.

Leave the EU: our economy won't crash - it'll just be the worst performing in Europe :-)

I don't remember this on the side of the bus.

Most companies in FTSE have assets denominated in dollars. Dollars have risen because of the Brexsh!t pound crash. Also FTSE comprises multinationals who are enjoying the booming global economy. Hence the FTSE appreciation does not indicate UK economy's heath.

Foreign investment is down, companies reporting difficulty recruiting. Corporate and govt institutions are relocating to the mainland. Please inform us all the signs the UK economy is in glowing health (that are more important than us being bottom of EU GDP table).

Is it all worth it to swap the directly elected Euro Parliament, the mostly directly elected Euro Council and the indirectly elected Euro Commission, with the House of Lords, the Privy Council, the monarchy and the City of London Corporation? Taking back control actually means the opposite - less democratic legitimacy.

Relatively, economy has crashed. Before ref we were near top of EU GDP growth table. Now we're bottom. How's the real-terms drop in earnings treating you? Got your country back yet? Taken back control?

If you voted Brexit, you've no-one to blame but yourself. Do you think inflation would be at 3% if we were remaining?

Grant Ward and Martyn Waghorn's cowardice
at 13:33 27 Nov 2017

"Looks like they got caught out - it's just as likely they were expecting a decent clearance." - I've played the game to a decent standard. Often when competing for headers, you both know where the other is, so can position your shoulders to prevent head-clashes. But running backwards to challenge for a looping ball is one of the most nerve-wracking moments in the game. If you have a real intention to header the ball, you must keep your eyes on it. So you don't have a clue whether you're going to have a running clash of heads with an oppo player. I've been briefly concussed a couple of times doing this.

When you're a professional footballer at that standard though, you instantly have the best medical attention money can buy. There's simply no excuse not to compete unless you've simply bottled it. I'm still outraged by this, two days later.

"they're not even looking at it" - indeed. Total disinterest. Average annual wage for Championship player is say £300-400k. Average wage for a Prem player: over £1m. For £600k, I'd compete for a frickingg header! It's total professional ineptitude for one thing. From supporters' perspective its utter dereliction of duty to the club. At least Waghorn has scored a few this season. Grant Ward can b*gger-off and never play for the club again as far as I'm concerned.

Grant Ward and Martyn Waghorn's cowardice

See first goal on Sat on one minute here:

It's like watching an under 14s game when everyone is scared of the only oppo player to have reached puberty. Both of them completely refuse to challenge for the header! We so often hear from MM: we might not be the most skillful, but we battle and compete. Well not here.

Are we to conclude from this that MM has lost the dressing room? Grant Ward and Martyn Waghorn clearly aren't interested in putting their bodies on the line. If they'd challenged and lost the header, fair enough. Challenging often is enough to prevent the opposing player from directing the ball exactly where he wants.

This goal is the most disgraceful and disheartening I've ever seen an Ipswich team concede.

Celina should have started far more games this season. Unf, skill and dribbling ability aren't heavily weighted in MM's assessment criteria. In short, he's not a proper bloke.
