The jury has been out about Hurst's mate Nolan, but today he was truly abject. Today was his sixth game and I've concluded he's not ready for Championship football. Completely lost the plot on the big stage today. At fault for their goal when he dived in rashly. He is sooo negative. We have a defensive midfielder already, as an advanced midfielder he needs to offer much more positivity. In every chance we had to break, Nolan was a hindrance, not a help. Today was his sixth game and I have yet to see him make an incisive forward pass. He was negative, wasteful and fouly. Our possession was either slowed or lost with his involvement. Just not good enough. Downes or Dozzell please.
Zero youth players on the pitch today at the club that was once the greatest academy of football in the country. Evans talks a good game, but his actions (managerial appointments) contradict them. Is it any wonder we fail to hold onto talents like Ben Knight. |

Incredible tactical genius from McCarthy tonight in dropping Douglas (confirmed it was tactical in his R Suffolk post-game interview). We are truly blessed to live in the same era as such a sporting intellect.
I can't fathom where he gets his inspiration for such decisions. Perhaps its EVERY Ipswich supporter without exception. I sometimes think we'd do better e-selecting the team democratically. Gav, please can you add such functionality to this website? |

We have a serious striker problem without McGoldrick. Last season, Fraser was so good, it didn't matter that our strike-force was poor. It's clear Sears is a shadow of his former self. I know he's not the tallest, but today he didn't even do a decent impression of someone who was competing for headers. He's playing like a 14 year old. Completely ineffectual. His shocking corner-clearance led to their second. Today was his big chance with McGoldrick injured to show he can fill his boots. Completely fluffed his chance. Overdue being dropped in favour of someone who'll play like a grown-up who give's a sh!t. Our 17-year-old on the bench today for instance. |

Agree with the ratings here. MM saying we'd have been beaten whatever team we put out is pessimistic on a night mid-table League 2 Carlisle took Liverpool to pens. We're not really playing like we did in August, so perhaps MM is right. Stand out players were Yorworth and McG, plus Coke for looking like a pub-player vs Juan Mata. |

Not surprised we're out given the team MM selected. N'Daw has arguably been our best player during our recent good run. That MM rested him shows he had little interest in the cup. Mid-table mediocrity for the eighth consecutive season is now the height of our ambitions this season. Shame because a cup run was our only chance of some glory.
Was far from a classic, Villa were there for the taking. No wonder they're a point off relegation. A loss of concentration after half time led to their equaliser, but we were still more than holding our own. We just seemed to all fall apart when JET went off. |
