Question for any garden clearance experts on here
at 20:42 10 Apr 2020

So, for one reason or another a family member in Clacton has a garden which is wildly overgrown with brambles, weeds, bushes and a tree. We're talking 6-7 feet high.

They're now on the shielded list, so I seem to have inherited the thankless task of trying to get this sorted so they can at least go outside. It's about 600 square feet. I've had one quote (2 man job for 2 days) which was £850. It's the only quote I've managed to get, and includes cutting that all back and disposing of the waste.

So, given I have no idea if that's good or bad - does anyone else?

Thanks in advance!

TWTD FIFA Tournament - GROUP STAGE DRAW - starts tomorrow
at 18:48 25 Mar 2020

Hi all,

Thank you for your entries - I ran this earlier this afternoon based on the Doodle form.

All group games to be arranged between individual posters, to be completed and scores reported back by 10pm Sunday 5th April. That's a game every 2-3 days which seems achievable.

Rules

1. Standard league rules, 3pts for a win, 1 pt for a draw. Top 2 qualify for last 16
2. Goal difference first separator if points equal, then goals scored
2. All teams to be at the same star rating (allocation TBC). I was going to allocate a random 3* team to everyone tonight - would appreciate feedback on this if there are objections/alternative views?
3. Winner to send the completed score through to me on here and I'll maintain the league tables (will be viewable on Google sheets later in the week). I'm sure we won't have any dishonesty but feel free to take a photo if you're more cynical just in case of disputes
4. Disconnecting is not cool

League Tables

As promised - the results will be updated and there's a live league table (Excel's a wonderful thing) - available at

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1xDgrjR5izX3itWpF3FsYIwGZL9kQ9ao7o0Ztt7Xs

Any questions or clarification needed - let me know.

Enjoy :)

TWTD FIFA 20 Tournament (XBOX)
at 19:37 20 Mar 2020

Hello all!

This period of social distancing seems like a good time to try and get some friendly competition going in the TWTD community! I barely post on here, so will give this a go as a way of being more social :)

To enter, just enter your TWTD username at https://doodle.com/poll/cv4gknb4s36ut2q6

Entry deadline - Tuesday 24th March 12:00
Group Stage Draw (or knockout 1st round depending on uptake) - Wednesday 25th March 20:00
Deadline to organise and play R1 matches - TBC
Further deadlines depending on uptake - TBC

Deadline to organise and play matches can then be confirmed and spread over the next few weeks to fill the gap in the season.

The only thing I'm not sure on and am happy to go with the majority, can go with either of the following for team selection;

- Free team choice
- Randomly assign a team to play with for the tournament in a random draw (between a selection of teams all at the same star rating.

If you're interested in entering, go ahead and we'll see what happens!

Gillingham ticket. Wishful thinking...but....
at 20:21 20 Sep 2019

Will add on enough for a couple of points if anyone happens to have a single spare ticket for the game tomorrow.

I know I should have just bought one - but typically only found out today that I wasn't needed at work.

If so, feel free to DM :)

Planning to return after missing this season
at 19:15 5 May 2019

Previously sat in Sir Alf Upper but planning on moving to SBR Lower. It'd be just me. Seems to be a few options.

Most of Section 5 (and all of Section 6 are sold out). So it's either Section 4 (where there's still a fair few left - or right near the front of Section 5.

Any recommendations?

First time buyer - survey identifies electrical issues. What next?
at 15:51 4 Jun 2018

Again, sorry for another house post - but can't think of a better collective resource than TWTD!

So, just had a full RICS Building Survey come back, which has identified a few defects raised as 'serious or need investigation urgently'. They mostly seem manageable and not that intrusive. However, my main concern is the electrics. The report says the following;

There is a mains electricity supply to the property. Where visible, the wiring to lighting and socket outlets is of PVC. The meter and consumer unit are located in the kitchen.
Deficiencies within the electrical installation were noted including a dated fuse box. The
installation does not now comply with modern regulations and requires upgrading.
Therefore, and in accordance with the information above and on grounds of safety, it should now be checked by an appropriate specialist prior to exchange of contracts. This report should detail all necessary works to bring the installation to current standards and the works should be undertaken as soon as practicable.

It's a 3 bed 1950's ex-LA terraced house. Couple of pics below. There's a fair bit of other work to do but if it needs a rewire, this would be the biggest issue. From the info here, is that likely? Is this something I'll have to swallow or is it reasonable to ask the vendor to either fix or reduce the price, given that the survey results are worse than expected?

If not, how much do you think we'd be looking at?

Many more of these posts and I'll have to host a BBQ as well! :)

Returns for the Norwich game

I just got two! Best time to call is between 10-10:30 apparently, they opened the post while I was on the phone and I was in luck.

Worth a go each morning for those that are still in need.

First time buyer tips
at 17:30 15 Jan 2018

Hi all,

Just thought I'd try and utilise the all knowing collective resource that is TWTD :)

I'm looking to move back from London and buy in Ipswich, flat or house.

Is there a rough consensus at to where the best place to start with is in terms of making offers? Whilst keen, I'm by no means desperate and therefore am happy to bide my time waiting for either a good deal or the ideal property. I assume there's a border between an insulting/not serious offer and a genuine low entry offer. Any pearls of wisdom?

I'm guessing this varies with new builds too, as they'd be less flexible?

Thanks in advance!

Kieffer Moore for 750k
at 14:27 5 Jan 2018

Would anyone disagree now with using the 750k to pay off MM and staff now?

If you're against Mick and the sale of KM, would that make it easier to swallow?

I think we need a change. I've been relatively pro-MM but this current stand off is bad for everyone, we're rudderless, lifeless and there's nothing on the horizon yet to inject any optimism.

Anyone ever considered/went through with leaving the South?
at 12:43 30 Nov 2017

I've been offered an interview tomorrow for a post that would effectively be the next rung up from my current position.

I'm currently in South East London and the role is in Stoke.

It's a 3k/10% payrise. Now this isn't that much of an uplift for the responsibility, but at the same time I'm expecting outgoings to drop rather sharply - so I assume it will feel like a bigger pay rise?

I don't really like hot weather, so I'm not bothered about that. Anyone have any experience or things to consider?

Free £15 spend at BYRON BURGER - that's £15 per person in the group!
at 14:25 26 Oct 2017

This couldn’t be any less football related, but I thought some of you may be interested in getting £15 burger credit for Byron burger.

Five of us just went to Byron and walked away without paying a penny. If interested, just follow these steps:

1) download the QKR - masterpass app on your smart phone
2) register a free account
3) click ‘rewards’ and ‘scan or enter code’
4) enter ‘CHRGOO1932’ (for £5 credit)
5) enter ‘BYRON10' (for £10 credit)

The £15 credit expires in six days, but until then… free burgers for all (veggie and vegan options included).

I suppose I should be thankful to Theresa May
at 14:28 11 Jun 2017

Just seen Yvette Cooper pitch for a shadow cabinet role, and agree that "of course" Jeremy Corbyn should lead us into the next election.

I'd make her shadow home secretary.

TM's bungled election could well be what brings the Labour Party back together again, or at least a lot closer, whilst she's thrown her own party into disarray.
