Sears: We Can Still Make the Play-Offs
at 10:12:57

Have been a Mick supporter for a long time. He's a steady manager, experienced and does a job in regards to stability and getting teams in the promotion pack. HOWEVER for all the Mick out brigade there is a much bigger problem that needs to be addressed in my opinion, and this is MARCUS EVANS!!!

Before we all go shouting for new managers and coaching staff, lets address the guy who bought our club and ask just what is his plan??? From what I can see, this mystery man has bought us, yes saved us from going to the dogs (to a certain extent), but what's his plan, WHY DOES HE OWN US????

Thanks Marcus for backing us all the way to STABILITY, but you've also created a stagnant, boring, nothing club. WHAT IS YOUR BUSINESS PLAN??? The golden land of the Premier League is not that far away, and with the right investment and people, we can do a Watford, Bournemouth… but with this guy investing bare minimum, showing NO AMBITION, NO DESIRE, this is what we get. A manager who fits the ‘hold us steady' remit, a club that picks up the scraps in the transfer windows (if we're lucky), and the embarrassing record of being the longest serving team in the Championship.

So where Mick takes blame for poor team choices and I concur with the boo's and jeers on this front, it's deserved; but actually what the hell do we expect??? You can't polish a turd, and Mick is a very experienced turd polisher, but only he can do so much before he feels as bored and fed up as us with the lack of AMBITION and OPPORTUNITY shown by the owner.

For me, yeah I'm bored of Mick's excuses, but I suspect so I he!!! For me, and for what it's worth, the main problem is the owner and just what the bloody hell does he want from us, it doesn't make sense. Sack Mick and we get another drone to tick ME's ‘keep us up' criteria and that'll be it.

Ask yourself the question, if Mick had the support from the chairman in regards to money to spend, would he be an awful manager… no he wouldn't. Like I say, Mick is chief turd polisher at Ipswich and it's wearing thin for him and us!

MARCUS EVANS — what are you doing???? What do you want????? Invest or sell us!!!! We are a stagnant, nothing club, and that starts at the very top!

TWTD League Calculator 2015/16
at 09:51:05

Paulnstar, I think heart ruling head mate. As I stated it's a very optimistic view. Some of those teams will be scrapping to get out of the relegation quagmire, which is a factor I've probably overlooked. Put it this way, I'd not put any money on my predictions...

Well at least we're the undisputed champions of being the longest serving team in the Championship, a title I suspect we'll be cementing even further come end of the season! (what an accolade that is), comparable to someone who might have bought a second hand Hyundai Amica in the mid 2000's and still has it now, because 'it still runs, never let me down'.

How long has it been since we were a really 'good' team now???? Actually lets not go there.

But you have to hope I guess. Stanger things have happened.

I've maybe optimistically got us on 75 points.

But bear in mind the past 3 seasons you've needed 78 (2014-15), 72 (2013-14) and 68 (2012-13) to finish 6th (so just shy of 73 points on average needed)… like I say, my prediction of 75 is ‘optimistic'. If we do get play-offs it'll be by the skin of our teeth in my opinion.

Malarczyk Due at Town Today
at 16:57:34

WarkOn - Priskin sprang to mind with me too, but I didn't want to dig up bad memories googling him. I'd convinced myself he was Latvian though, so we'd both score 0 on the pub quiz for that one! (rather like his goal tally for us LOL!)

Although not a done deal by any stretch (fingers crossed though)... I was just wondering (and I'm calling on the pub quiz knowledge of the TWTD faithful here), have we ever had a Polish player at town??? I'm stretching my thinking cap all the way back to 1991 when I started going, but no one springs to mind.

Forrest Inducted Into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame

... Slightly off point, but remember well Craig getting injured and Clive Baker was number 1 for pretty much a season. Bit of a blast from the past that name - seemed to think Clive did well between the sticks, but was no Craig Forrest!

Still my favourite Town GK in the 25 years I've been supporting. Have to disagree on the kits, as a GK in my youth, I loved them, still have the Yellow Umbro one with purple stripes in the loft, much better than the horrible skin tight things these days. Well done Craig Forrest. Well deserved, well done Big Craig! Him and Frankie Yallop our Canadian Link from a cracking football era - with super goalie kits ;-)

Clegg Dismisses Keane Claim
at 15:30:19

How I remember the day I was sat in a pub one lunchtime in Colchester and heard on the news we'd appointed Keane, and I remember how my heart sunk. I said there and then, awful appointment, will end in tears, and the rest as they say, is history. Even after he left the club (thank god!), this moron of a character is still chipping away at us with utter dribble and cr*p. Some of the other stories in the press right now off of the back of his new money making scheme, aka, another book, just cement my immediate thoughts from all those years ago one lunch break in Colchester, Roy Keane, you're a tos*er, get lost!

Your book Roy, will be bargain bin even before Christmas; the only joy I get from your ever flowing stream of hatred and nonsense towards anyone who crosses your path or works with you, is the vision I have of you, stood in a Recycling centre like Alan Partridge watching the unsold copies of ‘The Second Half' being pulped! The only football based literature featuring a Roy I recommend anyone reads is ‘Roy of the Rovers', you'll find it far more fulfilling.

Keeper-Coach Webster at Colchester
at 16:23:19

I was born in Leicester, grew up in Milton Keynes and now live in Rochester Jimmyjazz, and I'm ITFC through and through, you don't have to be born in an IP postcode to be a Town fan... Maybe family connections like myself is why he's an Ipswich fan, not that it makes a huge difference anyway. I was wondering if we'd be after a new keeper close season, do we think Loach is going maybe?

McCarthy to Freshen-Up Team at Yeovil
at 10:09:03

Will be a tough old game tonight, don't be fooled by the table Yeovil are a very good footballing side, they certainly gave us a run for our money at PR last year even though we ended up winning. Fingers crossed for a result, but it's going to be hard fought, based on current form, what's at stake league position wise etc. My money would be on a draw (most likely 1-1). Looking at the stats, Yeovil can't score (have 30 goals this season) but their defence is a bit leaky, 48 conceded (not the worst in the division though). Seeing how we're struggling to score at the minute I can see this as being a tricky stalemate. However if we can nick a goal and DEFEND it, based on their lack of ability to score, we could get the 3-points. Let's just hope the boys can find their scoring boots tonight; we're due a win, but Yeovil are fighting to get out of the bottom 3 and need the points too! Tough one… personally I'd be coming out with a very attacking minded setup looking for the early goals and hoping their lack of goals goes in our favour — but with our ability to let goals in when it matters and recent poor scoring record, my money is on a draw I'm afraid…

Another great article and trip down memory lane. Remember Gavin Johnson fondly and although only 10 or 11 at the time, I remember pitch invading at Oxford with my Dad and sister, our first season in the Premier League, first game against Villa (mentioned in the piece), great times! Top player from a the team I first watched way back when! Love these articles! Good work TWTD team, keep ‘em coming!

“A Bright New Future”
at 10:32:41

Almost a crazy debate this one.

I’ll be honest, I don’t know what ITFC fans (or most footy fans want) to be honest, I think most of them need a reality check!

Reading the forums week in week out, my underlying feeling is that people are measuring our potential success, ability and structure with incomparable yardsticks. League ‘success’ in my opinion has been achieved by 4 or 5 clubs in the past 20 years, these would be Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City, Liverpool – we are NOT comparable to these clubs, yet I get the impression that ‘success in football’ is seen as achieving what these top flight clubs have done and in the eyes of some of our fans, unless we’re on that path or in that ball park, we’re rubbish and unsuccessful and as with the modern football mentality, that’s obviously the fault of every manager who dares take the helm – at ANY club!

There was an interesting stat on Talksport some months ago about how many manager get sacked, or have been sacked a season; I’m afraid I don’t have all the facts to hand, but I worked it out as more than a 50/50 chance your boss will get the chop in a single season (was something crazy like 45 to 50 manager in the top 4 divisions getting the boot per year!). This is not indicative of ‘rubbish tactics’ or ‘not having a footballing brain’, its derived from this ridiculous mentality that to be ‘successful’ you have to be in the same league of achievement as Man Utd or Barcelona! Which is so unrealistic it’s not even funny.

The thought process of the individual who wrote this article (and many fans on here) is that unless you’re sitting in the top 3 (of whatever league you’re in), you’re crap and the manger should be sacked. What a pile of tosh! This being said, that must mean that ANY manager whose team are not in the playoffs at least (that’s 18 managers in our division) are useless because they aren’t winning anything.

What I do agree with is that it’s about time we started to do better. We have all the tools at our disposal, we’ve done it before, so we know it can happen again. However, what some people forget is we have turned a corner under the current management. This COULD be the beginning of us moving up a notch, it’s not the end product of the past 6-7 years (which I’d rather we all forgot about!).

I’d also like these ‘we need to pass like Barcelona’, ‘oh the beautiful game’ types, who probably learn their footballing prowess from a Playstation manager game or Soccer AM to consider what the hell will happen if we do go up??? Yes it’d be lovely to be in the Premier League again, but as it stands right now, we’d be smashed week in, week out. Have a look at the nothing clubs in the Prem: Villa, Stoke, Fulham, West Brom, Newcastle… they sit there year in year out NOT being Manchester United, NOT winning doubles or trebles, NOT winning a cup and if they’re unlucky enough, they get a UEFA cup spot which no one wants anyway! Realistically that would be our goal/5-7 year plan and even then half the people here would be moaning, ‘oh we’re out the cup’, ‘we lost 3 games in a row, sack the manager’, it’s actually quite depressing listening to these people. If you want to watch magical football, where passes fly 70 yards to a striker who beats 3 defenders before smashing a 25-years screamer into the top corner, my advice is go watch Man Utd, Arsenal, Man City, Liverpool with their £300 million budgets, global marketing and ruthless Arab owners. Because you aren’t going to get that at Town at the moment/ever/soon!

Someone explain to me, what is ‘footballing success’ for Ipswich??? Forget Bobby Robson, ’78, ’81 etc, think about NOW and where we were a few years ago, and where we COULD have been. For me right now, it’s about being top half of the table, being in the position to be able to spend a bit of money on new players, developing the youth system and not being a yo-yo club with a sack the manager mentality. Now that’s my ‘realistic’ vision of our club and personally, I think that’s pretty much where we are and it’s this that needs to be built on and to do that does not mean sack the manager every 5 minutes!

East Anglian Derby in Bowls Final
