Ashton: Category One a Possibility, But it Doesn't Excite Me
at 16:22:16

All the signs, from the outside looking in, has been really positive since the takeover.

However, i've been concerned by Cook's views on our young players. Either throwing some on the scrap heap (Dozzell, Downes for example) or the Club not making others feel particularly valued, despite the player concerned wanting to stay (Gibbs).

These comments do little to reassure me.

I fully appreciate the main objective is to get promotion ASAP, but blooding youngsters has always been our way.

Hopefully still will be, and i'm worrying over nothing...

MK Dons Eyeing Bishop Move
at 09:58:55

itfcserbia - true enough. But there is a fine line between attempting to motivate and to be too gung ho. Fact remains that we do actually have some talented players here. I would rather tell them they are staying, rather than sod off.

There are a few players - Bishop, Downes, for example - that i personally think should stay

(Older players and dead wood is a different argument)

MK Dons Eyeing Bishop Move

I'm sorry, but Cook supposedly telling the whole squad that they can move on is simply stupid. End of.

Yes, i know the team has struggled the last couple of seasons, but there is still some talent there - despite what some may say/think.

Next excuse will be 'new team, not enough time to gel' etc etc

Cook: First Half Possibly the Worst Performance From One of My Teams in My Whole Managerial Career

However lucky or false the position was, as a matter of fact, we were on the edge of the playoffs when Cook arrived. Team had an element of momentum.

What has happened since has been nothing short of embarrassing.

Now, i'm saying Cook is the wrong man for the job. But he must start next season well. No more excuses. Pressure will on big time...

Downes: We Should Be Winning Games Like This Easily, It's Not Good Enough
at 11:25:56

Downes is hands down our best player at the moment and you can see why Palace (and no doubt other Prem teams) were sniffing around. I just hope we get to keep him for next season. Make him permanent captain.

His drive sometimes gets him in trouble - either by bookings or injuries - but it's that kind of attitude we need in our team.

Just hope fans frustrations don't drive him away

Gillingham 3-1 Ipswich Town - Match Report

Firstly, my earlier remark regarding Blue Action, was tongue firmly in cheek. Humour bypass by some folk. Apologies if anyone took it too seriously (although i don't agree with all of BA behaviour, just a personal opinion).

Regarding the manager change. That was needed without a shadow of doubt. Ironically it came at the worst possible time with regards goings on on the pitch. We had just put a decent little run together. Granted it was papering over the cracks, but a run nonetheless. Today's result after the change in management was really quite predictable.

Having said that i am a fan of Cook, and i think he will ultimately do well for us. Lincoln at the weekend is now a big game!

As for the continued rumours regarding a takeover. This is more difficult than i think a lot believe. It's easy to hide behind the faults of Evans (of which there are many). But we don't want a volatile owner who could take us to the cleaners in an instant either. As with everything - needs to be the right person (group). If that means it isn't this current (rumoured) one, then so be it. Equally if they can prove themselves honest - happy days

So i guess we can assume this potential takeover is getting closer?

On one level, very exciting and much needed.

On another. Don't want to be a Bolton or, worse, Bury.

Time will tell...

Lambert: I'm Seeing Marcus Face-to-Face Next Week
at 10:46:29

We are in urgent need of a change of manager, that has been crystal clear for a while now.

The problem will be getting a suitable, long term, replacement.

Lets face it. When was the last decent manager we had, which didn't turn sour? I would say maybe Magilton? Who knows how that could have gone had he been given longer. Either way i guess?

Anyway. Whoever next comes in will be seen as a relief to the fans. But what will really change long term? I wouldn't be at all surprised in x number of months we would be in a similar position to now - ie fans wanting a change of manager again. It's how its been for a succession of them now in truth...

Problem is the owner

Blue Action Banner Urges Evans Action
at 08:33:49

I fully understand the upset, anger, call it what you will, and the potential change of manager. I've been a season ticket holder for just over 20 years, so have seen some of the good and some of the bad.

My only question is this.

Who exactly would come in and immediately take us up? Firstly we won't be able to attract - nor pay - a high profile manager right now. Secondly i very much doubt we would pay a large compensation fee to get a manager to leave his current club.

That leaves us with a very limited pool of unemployed managers (unemployed for a reason, mostly) or someone completely untried and tested.

Bearing in mind how important this season is, a change could easily result in failure just as much as sticking with Lambert could.

* remember, i did state i can see why 'we' would want a change. Just saying it won't necassarily bring the immediate success we desire or, quite frankly, need

Town Sack Hurst as Lambert Set to Take Over
at 17:45:16

Can't remember the last time i posted on here, not that anyone particularly cares, i'm sure!

Got to admit i'm really disappointed how this has all turned out. I really desperately wanted McCarthy to go. Credit where it is due, the guy kept us up when we looked doomed. But the standard of football - and the results - required a change.

I think the vast majority of us wanted a younger, up-and-coming manager to come in. I also think the majority of us also wanted us to look into the lower leagues for players, rather than Championship 'has beens' on expensive salaries.

So, on the face of it, we got what we wanted. It is a crying shame it hadsn't worked out.

I actually - maybe to my shame - walked out of Portman Road (ironically against Leeds) a few seasons back under McCarthy, and hadn't been back since, despite having had a season ticket since the mid-90s.

I know that is nothing to be proud about. I was keen for Hurst to do well, have been to a few games this season, and actually seen some genuine potential.

Following the sacking in all probability we will now go down the route of appointing a 'has been'. Someone who is currently out of work - for a good reason - and back to sqiare one. I'm bored of the managerial names going round and round and round.

My only hope is, on the assumption we get an 'experienced' head, we steady the ship, stay in the league, and appoint someone fresh again next season.

The Club almost got me back. Almost

Ipswich Town 2-2 Rotherham United - Match Report
at 18:24:59

Having given up my season ticket this year after 20+ years (no, i'm not proud in having done so) i can safely say i'm happy in my decision. And that is hard to swallow.

Supporters that rally behind Mick McCarthy have always been saying something along the lines of 'entertainment doesn't bother me, it's the winning that counts'.

That statement doesn't wash with me and is 100% behind the reason i didn't renew this season.

So what do his supporters say now?

Not only is the team still playing awefully (quoted from mates that still go), we are also not picking up many points! Super Mick has lost his 'magic'.

Please go. Then maybe we can play football again. Be entertaining again. Win fans back again.

Bye Mick (please!!!!)

McCarthy: Up to Us to Win Back Fans
at 09:01:02

The first game of the season is upon us. Traditionally that time of year where every football fan up and down the country starts to get excited.

That was me for these back 20 years or so.

Not today

First time in those 20 years i've given up my season ticket.

Cheers Mick

14 Years in the Second Tier But Be Careful What You Wish For
at 13:55:18

I appreciate what this blog is trying to say, but I think a number of supporters are now feeling - in simple terms - mixed emotions towards the club now.

I have had a season ticket since the mid ‘90s so have been through a rollercoaster of seasons. Heartache at missing out on the playoffs, semi-final defeats, that wonderful day at Wembley followed by the most glorious of seasons back in the Premiership, relegation and subsequent failings in the Championship.

The reason why I mention my own personal ‘history’ with the club is to give my comments some solid grounding.

This coming season I have decided not to renew my season ticket. The simple reason for this is the painstakingly boring standard of football served up by Mick McCarthy.

His backers will say he has done wonders for us and, credit where it is due, he created a minor miracle in keeping us in the league when we looked like going down when he first arrived. Yes we have improved our league positioning since then. But. And it is a big But...

He has never been a manager to play attractive football. We are seeing that here at Ipswich, but history backs this up with his previous clubs and Ireland. He can’t blame it on the type of players we have. He has signed a number of wingers in his time with us already, and none have cut it (or been given a fair chance). Ok, this past season we missed a few of our key attacking players for lengthy spells, but even on the occasions they did play, our style was always static at best.

The club have written to me both in email and letter form expressing their regret at me not renewing - obviously every fan in my position would have had the same treatment.

Do I miss not going on Saturday afternoons? Yes. Certainly the idea of it I do. But unfortunately this has been ‘beaten’ out of me somewhat.

The bottom line is I’m not renewing due to the standard of football being seen week after week. Football brings about many emotions. Sometimes we win, sometimes we don’t. This isn’t about Ipswich not winning games - I’ve never been like that. This is about entertainment. We always had an element of attacking intent, even in the so-called dark days of Keane and Jewell we always gave it a go.

Super Mick just doesn’t have that in his blood. Never has. Never will.

Town 0-0 Huddersfield - Match Report
at 12:22:32

One of the worst games i've ever seen Ipswich play. Typical McCarthy attitude of starting with a point, so lets not loose it. We can't pretend (and pretend is the right word) to be challengers in this league with tactics like this.

His style of play (but play i mean hoof ball) belongs in the Stone Ages. Yesterday i virtually fell asleep and, in all my years of having a season ticket, was the first time i walked out early. Bored. Bored. Bored.

Will i be back? Very debatable.

Oh. And our captain Chambers. What a utter disgrace taking that throw in for a Town attack when Huddersfield played the ball out for an injury (however pathetic the contact may have been)
