Midfielder Owen Garvan says he is delighted to be back in the first team again having gone three months without playing a senior game. The Irish U21 international skipper played the full 90 minutes against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, having been left out since August.
Garvan told the club site: "I'm obviously glad to be back playing and hopefully I've done enough to stay in the manager's plans for next week.
"It was difficult being out of the squad and watching the lads travel away, but I've kept working hard and all I want to do is help the team and play a part in helping to push the club up the table.
"Like any player I want to be out there on the pitch, playing games and I want to stay in the team.
"My fitness wasn't too bad. I have played in the reserves and for Ireland, but you can't beat playing every week for match sharpness."
Meanwhile, former Blue Darren Currie has joined Dagenham and Redbridge on a two-month loan from Chesterfield.
Elsewhere, ex-Town striker Neil Woods has been named the new manager of Grimsby, having previously been youth coach at Blundell Park.
Thank God we did at least have Owen Garvan's return on saturday to get excited about. Good performance from him too, as expected. He rarely disappoints!

Great to see Garvs back in the side. With him about there is some hope that we might play a bit of football and not just kick and rush. Thought he was excellent wide and I'd like to see him play there with Quinn inside with Leadbitter. I think Leadbitter needs a partner who can get in the box and you know with Quinn he'll do what ever he's asked to do. Something to feel positive about at last!! C'mon Garvs lead us up the table!!

agree with titanicclown. He came into the game much more in the second half when the midfield appeared to swap round, and whenever the ball went down the left hand side you felt something might happen.

Great to see him back, at least he will try something different and has the vision to change a game.
That said, anybody else think it's more than a coincidence that one minute Keane is trying to offload him and the next he is playing 90mins live on Sky? Some could say he's playing him to put him in the shop window.

Good to see him keeping the awful Quinn and Trotter out. He was good at calming play on Sat but was v tired at the end after proving his commitment.
he'll never play at a higher standard than the championship, but he's a good squad player for us, and remains favourite to pair Leadbitter until Norris comes back, or until we get another decent centre mid man.
Good for you old boy. We still need more from you though, much more.
Keano gave Garvan the biggest kick in the arse, and i bet Garvan admits he was grateful, one day.

I was suprisd by Garvans performance... He has been very poor recently but has stuck at it and has obviously done something to get back into the team rather than Keane just deciding to choose him. He left him out for the right reasons but hopefully Garvan can show Keane it was a blip! Edwards was MOM for me, once he gets a few goals hopefully his shooting will improve!

muhrensleftfoot - that would mean pushing Walters up front or dropping him i guess. Although we're all agreed Walters is better wide, he's a good target man and works the back four well when playing up there, would need an outstanding striker with him though, like, er....
