Begovic Happy to Return
Tue 24th Nov 2009 08:43

Departing loan keeper Asmir Begovic says he would happily return to Town for a further spell if the opportunity presented itself. Yesterday the Bosnian international was recalled by Portsmouth to cover for the injured David James.

Begovic told the club site: "I have really enjoyed my time at Ipswich. I came here to play football and try and help the team climb up the table, and in the short space of time I have been here I have felt part of the side, part of the club and part of the town.

"I would have been very happy to have stayed here until January but circumstances have dictated differently.

"I'm sad to leave, to be honest. I have enjoyed the challenge here but Portsmouth want me back there. I don't know how long David will be out for and who will take over from him. I'll find that out later in the week.

"I have a new challenge at Portsmouth but if the opportunity comes up to return to Ipswich on loan I would be very interested."

Town could look to add another keeper to their ranks before Thursday’s emergency loan deadline or manager Roy Keane may decide to recall Richard Wright. New keeper Brian Murphy isn’t able to officially join the club until the transfer window opens in January.

ipswich61 - true, but all of the other games where he has saved our skin, behind a defense that has been woeful at times over the last couple of seasons, do.

He's been through a bad patch - all keepers go through them - and we must hope that he comes back into the team refreshed and ready to perform at his best.

cgs - i have always disliked keane due to what went on with the man city player, but he became manager at portman road and because he is my clubs manager i will support him as i did jim untill the end. i wish others would support him and the team as all the negativity aint helping them in getting the result we all wish for

Wrighty conceeded 16 goals in six games, Asmir 4 in six games and town also on 6 game unbeaten run, says it all.
Wrighty can't catch the ball, useless from crosses and does not command his area.

Pickles ... West Brom ,Middlesboro, Preston,Newcastle ,Sheff Utd or Barnsley ,Reading,Derby ,Plymouth,Swansea the lowest scoring teams in the league on the worst runs it does say it all you are correct a lot easier games with a better defence now D Wright has also returned also .
Player of the year doesnt become bad just cause Keane says so ,try thinking for yourself

Not sure that Keane has ever said that Wright is a bad keeper, has he? I presume that he dropped him because he made some pretty basic errors which, arguably, cost us points.

Wrighty deserves his chance now. His record earlier this season doesn't look good because the back 4 in front of him were unsettled. Put him in now with a settled back 4 and let's see where we are until January when Brian 'George' Murphy turns up with Mildred.

Nobrain that could be the key to the season ,every time someone makes a mistake they are dropped ,which is why they look so nervous and didnt seem to really go for it on Saturday ?

Am I the only one that think's this whole 'Richard Wright has made too many mistakes' thing is utter BS? He made 1 or 2 errors and the whole thing just snowballed. People talk as though he was making gaff after gaff every week. He's a TOP keeper at this level.

Surco72 - but if RK had not dropped him and he'd continued to make those errors and we'd lost games rather than draw them - what then?

Don't get me wrong, I believe that Wright is a good keeper who has had a bad patch of form and will prove his worth when he returns.

Sorry should have said I was watching better keepers at PR well before Wrighty came on the scene and he has always been the same, does not command his area, can not catch a cross to save his life and does not instill confidence in the rest of the defense.
You quote the games that Asmir kept us in an un beaten run but do you think with wrighty in goal we would have been on a six game unbeaten run?
If you do you are mad, every time when Wrighty is in goal and they get a corner etc we all think oh no here we go again.

Sorry my friends but Wrighty is definitely not a quality keeper. The first half of last season he was truly awful and had been this season too (yes ok he kept the score down at the Hawthorns). Any player can be forgiven for having the odd off game but when you have regular runs of bad games it's time to face facts. I know it hardly matters now, but I wonder if Shane Supple would still be with us if Jim had given him his chance last season when Wrighty was off form?
