Harte Town's Carlisle Target Wed 25th Nov 2009 10:49
Sources in the North-West are reporting that former Republic of Ireland international left-back Ian Harte is the Carlisle player the Blues are targeted. Earlier, Carlisle boss Greg Abbott revealed that Town had made a loan enquiry for one of his players.
The 32-year-old, who was previously a member of Roy Keane’s squad at Sunderland, started his career with Leeds United, remaining at Elland Road for nine years until 2004 when he moved on to Levante in Spain.
After two years with the Valencia-based club, he joined Keane’s Sunderland in the summer of 2007. After six months at the Stadium of Light the Drogheda-born defender was transfer-listed and left the following summer, having made only three starts and five sub appearances.
After trials with Norwegian side VÃ¥lerenga and Charlton, Harte eventually signed for Blackpool last December, remaining there until March when he joined Carlisle.
A set piece expert, Harte has won 64 Republic of Ireland caps and has scored 11 goals.

If true, I can only think it must be for his set-piece delivery. That could decisive in these agonising 0-0 affairs we seem to be having. On the other hand, is he still a solid left back ? Have a Harte. Harte's in the right place. And so forth...

It all makes sense now.......He's used to play for Ireland & Sunderland!!!! How much more dross are we going to ship into our already woeful side? Trying to keep the faith with Keano but I have to admit, it's proving to be very difficult!

Lets not get carried away, at the moment it's just speculation. I took am behind Keane and town, but some of his signings are bizarre. I still can't understand spending 1.7m on Priskin and then not starting him for several games on the trot- admittedly I've not been impressed but Keane must have some faith in his own decision to pay that much for him surely?
Harte used to be a good defender, but all I can say, if it's true and he is available on loan, what sort of form is he in to not get in a Carlisle team?

Davray9 i remember the match well. I could have killed him for getting Stewart sent off. I was sitting right near the incident. 2 mins later Hart came to take a throw on and he gave the "thumbs up" to the Leeds fans for getting Stewart sent off, barstard. If he comes we seems to be amassing a squad for Div 1.
