John's Loan Spell Extended Fri 01st Jan 2010 16:32
Striker Stern John’s loan from Crystal Palace has been extended until January 30th. The frontman’s new spell starts with immediate effect and the Trinidadian international is available for Saturday’s FA Cup tie at Blackpool.
The 33-year-old made four appearances for the Blues in his first month at Portman Road, but is yet to score.
With Jon Stead suspended, John is likely to start at Bloomfield Road on Saturday. The Town squad are flying up to the North-West this evening.
Yesterday, manager Roy Keane revealed that Sunderland had agreed to allow Jack Colback to remain with the club until the end of the season.

He wasn't great against QPR, but he's not here to score goals really, he's here to make the key passes to our 'goalscorers', and in the QPR game he had quite a few cracking passes and knock ons (including to Walters for the first goal).
Having said that, after Stead is back we should let go of John.
Maybe a chance for Priskin to show us what he's worth this month?

Not exciting news, but sensible with Stead banned and with no new signings seemingly imminent. I think John has done ok and is worth having in the squad as an option for January. Let's hope we sign a really good striker in January to restore some belief that Ipswich can really challenge for promotion next season.

I only saw him play against QPR and yes he was lazy, but he laid the ball on for Johnny Walters to get the first goal and did make a few nice passes. Maybe he will shine in his second spell.

For me Stern had good first half against QPR with some useful passes which generally got wasted (particularly by Stead) - and then lost interest in as the game went on.

Not expecting us to sign a new striker on a permanent deal anytime soon - RK said at a recent interview that he's happy with the numbers we have up front and in midfield. If RK manages to offload Lisbie early in the transfer window, then it might be game-on in signing a new striker...

My view is that he's done better than a lot of people give him credit for. He scored a perfectly good goal against Peterborough and has been unsettling defences since he has been here. He has done more than Priskin and he cost us £1.7 million. Plus he can head a ball (which Stead can't). And he has settled in well in the dressing room which is never easy as a loan player!
Interesting that Palace aren't fussed about him playing in the Cup.

Not a surprise. Although I am not a hugh fan of John, the situation is thus: Stead - out for 4 games Walters - not a striker - excellent on the right Priskin - poor form Counago - doesn't play well away - scored one all season. Wickham - only 16, too much pressure.
Bottom line is John will give us another option. Doubt the loan will be extended further.

He's not the long term answer but with no stead an injuries possible he is needed in the squad at least for one more month, just another option, and he is a hassle for the defences, bit like Heskey. Hopefully Priskin will get a chance tomorrow and if both are not on form then there's always Whickham or Pablo on the bench. Although i rekon the goals will come from midfield tomorrow.

Agree with chapmanp - Stearn Johns vision is just what we've been lacking this season (check out his through ball for Wallters to score for eg). John was a real handful for QPR and gave us space. Couple more matches will see him improve even more.

I think people are being a bit to harsh towards john, he is our only striker that can actually win the ball in the air and the only striker that can hold up the ball with his strength also he has shown bits of quality in his play and with more games coming his way hopefully we will see him scoring more and being the good playmaker that he is.
