McEveley Linked With Town Return
McEveley Linked With Town Return
Friday, 8th Jan 2010 08:40

Town are being linked with a move for former loanee Jay McEveley. The 24-year-old Derby County left-back is out of contract in the summer and is said to be available at a bargain price, although the Rams were recently reported to be ready to offer him a new deal.

McEveley, who has been capped three times by Scotland, was with the Blues while a Blackburn player during the 2005/06 season, making 17 starts and two sub appearances, scoring once.

The Liverpool-born defender, who had previously spent time on loan at Gillingham and Burnley while with Blackburn, joined Derby for £600,000 in January 2007, subsequently joining Preston and Charlton on loan.

This season the 6ft 1in tall left-back or centre-half has been a regular in Nigel Clough’s side.

A new left-back very much appears to be on Roy Keane’s January wish-list with Lee Wallace of Hearts linked towards the end of last year and Carlisle’s Ian Harte targeted just before the emergency loan deadline.

Nooooooooo. He was dreadful when he was here before. It's no coincidence that Derby had a record low number of points in the Prem with him in the back four

I went to watch Derby-Man Utd with a mate when they were in the prem and McEveley was shocking. One time he gave the ball away, a fan in front of us stood up and shouted "McEveley you are the worst player in Derby County's history" Says it all. Please look elsewhere Keano

This "bargain price" that's mentioned...does that mean derby are gonna pay us to have him and pay his wages for us....that would be a bargain otherwise no way we would be paying championship wages for someone who will be behind david wright, balkestein, tommy smith, damien delaney and even ben thatcher at left back roles and as for him being a centre back we got brucey, delaney, mcauley, smith, balkestein all ahead of him so it makes sense to buy better than we have not bring in someone who's gonna sit on the bench in the reserves

He made Matt Richards look like Kenny Samson when he was with us before. Nooooooooo thanks Roy, many more left backs in the sea.

Like i said before Keane will spend Jan trying to sign a left back , left midfield and forward exactly what we did pre season ,has he given up on Martin and Priskin ?
Also still think he has a problem with David Wright who has been performing well at left back for me and added calm to the back four ,much better option than Mceverly , i would even rather have Thatcher back !!!

People on here are unbelievable. I am sure Keano can live with Peters or Wright but his job is to try and improve when transfer windows open. We would be critcising if he didnt. Mc Eveley papertalk I am afraid....nothing more. Keanes record since the end of September is exceptional. 2 defeats 1in the sixth minute of injury time and another when Stead was sent off. I really do not know what people expect or want. I simply can no longer understand the critcisim. We should now all be united in what will undoubtedly be exciting times ahead.

Speculation fed by his agent I reckon. To be ignored.

Disagree actually. Good solid full back who gets forward. Just the type you need in this division.

Has been sent off a few times ! Surely we can find someone better, who is going to be a first team fixture rather than a squad player. Im hoping he will only be a squad player !

This has got to be a joke. The bloke is cumbersome and no pace whatsoever.
Roy has surely more sense to be interested in him - not his type of player. The best left sided player we have seen at PR this season has been Michael Gray of Sheff Wed.
