Stead's Blackpool Move Breaks Down
Fri 30th Jul 2010 11:57

Jon Stead’s proposed move to Blackpool is now reported to have broken down. Earlier reports claimed initial talks between the striker and the Tangerines hadn’t gone well after a fee in the region of £200,000 had been agreed earlier in the week.

The former Sheffield United, Huddersfield and Blackburn frontman is said to have returned to Town for training.

Prior to Stead’s proposed switch to Blackpool, the ex-England U21 international was unable to agree terms with Bristol City. The 27-year-old is understood to be on wages approaching the £12,000-a-week mark at Town.

BAD NEWS in relation to the Chopra move as losing Steads wages would of helped massively in getting Chopra in!

Could not agree more.....
Sounds like we wrap them up in cotton wool too much.....
Make em sweep the stands after a game to really earn their over inflated wages!
Mind you, the thought of being part of the worst ever premiership team would encourage me to stay put!!!

I like stead but he needs to ask himself a few questions regarding his own ambitions

Oppurtunity to play Premier league football and potentially be the number 1 striker for Blackpool or stay with a club in the championship where the manager clearly isnt a fan, for the sake of a couple of grand he may lose

Stead didn't like the sub bench at Blackpool. He found it too uncomfortable and prefers the one at IP1. I don't blame him for turning down Bristol City as there's no guarentee of first choice football there but surely Premier League is where he wants to be even if he is a sub there too

Greedy waste of space. Would rather sit on the bench for Town then have the opportunity to play in the premier league. Has no ambition what so ever!!!

Might have something to do with the fact that his wife has recently given birth and is not wanting to move from the area, is that greed?

Sir Alf......he wouldn't be travelling to Bristol then Blackpool if he didn't want to leave the area. He goes there to discuss money then realises he is on a good earner here, so doesn't move.

Greed.

Or perhaps he would rather stay in Ipswich and fight for his place. Perhaps his ambition is to help Ipswich get promoted. Where is the evidence in this article that Blackpool offered less wages? Not agreeing terms can also mean length of contract etc. Also he has a young family to consider.

I suppose all of you calling him greedy and lacking in ambition would up sticks and move to Blackpool without a second thought if the company you worked for(presuming any of you actually do a job of work) said they'd like you to go.

Maybe he wants to fight for his place (and let's face it, there's not a huge amount of competition up front).
Maybe he thinks keane won't last much longer than a couple of months.
Maybe he likes living around here with a settled family and house.
Let's face it, there are loads of variables and we have no idea what he's thinking but if people want to slag off their OWN team members by calling them greedy and unambitious then so be it.
I still think given a proper run, in a settled position/team he could do more than just a job for us.

I am glad he is staying and fighting for a place ,better than what other options we have with Wickham injured to start the season .If we need money for transfers try getting rid of the 3.5 million we wasted on Priskin and Martin and their wages

Nice to see you still here Stead. I hope you up your gear and become a better striker. Otherwise you'll look like a gold digger.

But how demoralising is it that alot of the transfers involving us have broken down. Or look like breaking down.
