O'Dea: I'll Be Back at Celtic
O'Dea: I'll Be Back at Celtic
Wednesday, 23rd Mar 2011 13:18

Loan defender Darren O’Dea says he will be returning to Celtic in the summer having spent the season with the Blues. The 24-year-old has been in and out of the team throughout the camapign, rarely enjoying a long run in the side.

O’Dea told the Scottish press: “Celtic is my club, it is in my heart. I have let my head rule my heart for now, which is why I am on loan, but I will be going back to Celtic in the summer and doing my utmost to break into the team.”

The Dubliner, who has made 19 starts and two sub appearances for the Blues, is currently with the Republic of Ireland squad ahead of their Euro 2012 qualifiers against Macedonia on Saturday and Uruguay next Tuesday, both in Dublin.

Oh well his lack of pace will be well suited to the SPL.

He's been ok, useful to have in the squad given our lack of full backs, but pretty unspectacular as a player.

will need to be replaced as we cannot rely totally on Kennedy at full back as always injured. a half decent player but i think this interview has come because he has been told he is not in towns long term plans, his attidude was rather more positive towards town before... still good luck Darren i think you have potential to be a half decent player just not good enough for us currently.

O'Connor is a more than adequate left back to compete with kennedy.. We need a right back, not a replacement for O'Dea, all the best Darren but not overly surprised!!

Phew!! Glad to see him head back north... I'll always remember him for his shocking performance at carrow rd, my nan could have moved quicker that day! Good luck in the SPL though...

thank god. cant defend to save his life which, considering he's a defender, is a bit of a problem...

Never particularly awful (bar norwich) but never particularly good, did well against arsenal mind. Can find better I think.

Probably a better center half. A bit in the Alex Bruce mould.

Much better at CB but never in a million years a left back and no better than Macualey or Delaney. We have got better and can do better in terms of new signings (David Wright is being mentioned and i would certainly support that).

Thanks for the effort (except Norwich away where you were a joke and embarassment to this proud football club) and good luck back at Celtic.

never forgiven him for the performance against Norwich....delaney made up for it with performances against norwich etc.

Perhaps the truth is he has been told he is not needed at Ipswich?

HolbrookBlue - completely agree. Reading between the lines PJ has told him he's not required!

Sound decision by PJ as just an average player and no better than we already have.

Probably show's how poor a league the Scots Prem is! Average for us to be honest; nothing more!

Never completely understood why RK brought him down. He was (and probably still is a centre back) and when DD regained his place, he was redundant. He was never a left back for me.

The report to Neil Lennon will probably be on the lines of:

that he has reached rock bottom and has started to dig

that he has delusions of adequacy

that he sets low personal standards and then consistently fails to achieve them.

that the gates are down, the lights are flashing, but the train isn't coming.

Unfair and cruel I know, has always been a trier but not the answer to our particular needs.

Anyway thanks and good luck Dazz.

@HighSeasBlue Middlesborough under Gordon Strachen show how bad the SPL is.

An Ok player. Not sensational, not too bad except against Naaarwich .... I dread to think how he would fare in an old firm game and agree his best posisiton may end up being CB.

pretty average player - moving down a league back to the SPL so should find the right level!

Started well before his knee injury when away with Ireland but if we get Delaney and Macauley signed up then he isn't needed IMO.
