Clegg: No Deals Imminent
Clegg: No Deals Imminent
Saturday, 21st May 2011 10:36

Chief executive Simon Clegg says Town fans will have to wait a little bit longer for the Blues’ first signings of the summer with no deals set to be completed over the weekend. However, the Town chief says that situation can change very quickly with attempts to land new additions to Paul Jewell's squad ongoing.

Clegg, speaking to TWTD at last night’s launch of the Ipswich Town in Europe exhibition, said: “We’re working behind the scenes, there’s nothing that is imminent at this moment in time, Paul's away at the moment, but that doesn’t mean the situation might not change in 24 or 48 hours.

“But at the moment here’s nothing imminently in the pipeline which will come to fruition within the next 48 hours.”

The chief executive kept to the club’s usual policy of not talking about specific targets: “I do not get involved in discussions about speculation or about individual players until we have something to announce one way or another.”

Please can no one dribble on this thread. It's May for Christ sake. Still 3 months to get plenty of deals done.

Seriously what do we pay Clegg for? His problem is he spends to long thinking and releasing stupid statements rather than just getting the deals done....and hes forehead is too long!

Dear Eggroy,

Please try reading the article.

'Clegg, speaking to TWTD at last night's launch of the Ipswich Town in Europe exhibition, said: “We're working behind the scenes, there's nothing that is imminent at this moment in time but that doesn't mean the situation might not change in 24 or 48 hours.'

Notice how he is speaking to TWTD there. That means Phil has probably asked him. He hasn't released any statement, he's just told a journalist the truth.

Please stop moaning.

Many thanks.

Just another waste of space on this site ! It is getting so predictable that ' nothing is imminent ' . We will once again end the transfer window with all decent players going to other clubs while we will be left with the players no other club wants and loan players who have no loyalty and only use us to get match time to break into parent club team !!! Deals need to be done early to keep supporters happy !

At least he's being honest, It's still early days. Maybe TWTD should shut down for a month have a break and come back mid June when somethings actually gonna happen.

Early days yet, But make sure you don't leave it too late cleggy boy.

Give Clegg his due he was quite good in "Last of the Summer Wine".

If nothing happens soon the crowds will not be coming back and season ticket sales will decline further ( I think the 13k figure is an exaggeration ) as a lot of my area said they would only wait until the end of May to see signings before buying new season tickets ! We have had all this talk of work behind scenes for too long - it is time to show some progress !!! Promises only work for a limited time and that time has run out !

Can someone tell me what clegg does?

Just remember that the season isn't even technically finished yet. There's still plenty of time. Plus, the situation could be that we're looking at maybe a lower league play-off team, and need to see where they'll be next year before we start bidding etc

Think we might have a couple in by end of next week.

I think some people are missing the point: Two weeks ago PJ himself said he hoped to sign a couple of players 'by the end of the week'. Then it was by the end of this week. And then shock horror, we won't be signing a player. Before people say 'stop moaning' the problem is PJ raised the expectation. Perhaps PJ would be best advised not to say anything at all.

I agree there is a long way to go with this pre-season, but it was the club who said they wanted players in by now. Not the fans.

This situation looks rather like a stack of dominoes. You can't use Jimmy Bullard as an attraction to other players looking at coming here. He isn't signed up. Until some commitment comes to buy 2 excellent (expensive) players, it will be exponentially more difficult to attract others with potential.

Sounds familiar, so was sharp and coppinger the two we going to get last week. Bugger me, even I could have seen that wouldn't have been a done deal.

Much to his mothers surprise, I imagine "no deals iminient" were the first words to come out of little Cleggi's mouth when he was a baby. It was then she knew her little boy was destined to become ITFC chief exec...

Look on the bright side - this is a golden opportunity for Clegg knockers to try and out-do each other as player's agents fish around for the best pay-day.

Not hugely surprising, with people being on holiday and some clubs not knowing what division they will be in next year. The free transfers will probably want to consider their options before committing themselves. So long as we get the right people in (ideally before pre-season starts) then no problem...

whilst I agree its is very early in the close season (players are now likely as not away on hols etc etc). I sadly will be expecting exacty the same press release from Mr Clegg when we are just 2-3 weeks from the start of the season.

jewell thought the bid for the donnie pair was going to be accepted hence why he thought we were going to sign someone last week.
i dont know why people are always on cleggs back all he is the face and mouth of marcus.

Stop moaming. You should only start moaning if no players in by mid jue. Give him time.

I mean how thick can some1 really be? So in one sentence he not ruling out anything ever happening within 24 or 48 hours. The he goes onto say nothing could happen in 48 hours. That really makes sense, I wouldn't have this man in charge of the tea club.
