Jim Wants Mellor - Ipswich Town News

Boss Jim Magilton has spoken to Liverpool about taking striker Neil Mellor on loan. It's by no means the 23-year-old has been linked with the Blues, Joe Royle admitting an interest in the Sheffield-born frontman in 2003.

Magilton, who started his career at Liverpool, says he has made an enquiry: "Neil Mellor is someone who can score goals and is one I'm definitely interested in. I have spoken to Liverpool reserve team manager Gary Ablett about the possibility of getting Neil on loan and, if he becomes available we will be right in there, trying to get him."

Mellor, son of former Manchester City player Ian, has previously spent time on loan at West Ham and Wigan.

In 2002/03 he made his senior debut against the Blues in the Carling Cup tie between the clubs at Anfield.

Earlier this week Crystal Palace manager Peter Taylor said he is unwilling to allow striker Jon Macken join the Blues on loan.

Sam Parkin is continuing talks with Preston and Luton regarding his £300,000 move away from Portman Road, Town having accepted bids from both clubs.
