New boss Jim Magilton was pleased with his side's display against Hull City and wants to build on the performance over the next few weeks. The Blues had the better of a 0-0 home draw with Hull City.
Magilton said: "It was a great effort. We approached the match in the right manner and on balance deserved to win.
"We must build on the clean sheet and go forward from there. We were nervy to start with, but the fans did their best to lift us.
"It was character-building. We created chances and on another day might have won handsomely, but it was a relief to get the first point of the season.
"I never took defeat too well as a player. As a manager I'm even worse. Last week we worked on specific things and now I am looking forward to training on Monday again to crack on from there.
"It was the first time our loanees, Mark Noble and Simon Walton, have played together. We thought we could exploit Hull down the flanks and that proved to be the case, but we missed the chances."
Magilton said he switched his keepers due to Lewis Price showing good form in training and Hull's danger in the air: "Lewis has been looking sharp and I felt he might have a little more presence against Hull's aerial threat."
Hull boss Phil Parkinson said he was more than anything determined not to be defeated for the fourth game in a row: "I have never been beaten in four successive league matches in my career as a manager and I did not want that to happen. Nor did my players.
"I think we deserved a point because we created two or three clear-cut chances, but it was hardly surprising that this match was tight and edgy in view of the start both clubs have made to the season.
"I was delighted with the way my lads responded to their early season setbacks. There was plenty of character in their display.
"We had to defend well and there was plenty of good stuff going on in our box. I wanted my players to be positive going forward and yet keep the back door firmly shut.
"I know there is room for improvement. This team is going to get better. We know there is much more to come."
