Legwinski Offered Deal - Ipswich Town News

Town have confirmed that trialist Sylvain Legwinski has been offered a contract. Widespread reports over the weekend claimed that the Fulham man would be given the chance to stay at Portman Road.

Boss Jim Magilton told the club site: "We had a look at Sylvain and he had a look at us and hopefully something can be sorted out.

"We have offered him a contract and negotiations are going on at the moment."

Legwinski, now 33, joined the Blues on trial at the start of last week and played 45 minutes of the behind-closed-doors game with Spurs.

Nicknamed Monica by Fulham supporters, Legwinski was recently on trial with French club Troyes but failed to win a deal.

The busy defensive midfielder joined Fulham from Bordeaux for ÂŁ3.3 million in August 2001. Born in Clermont-Ferrand, Legwinski has made 148 starts and 16 sub appearances for the Cottagers and scored 12 goals.

Prior to his two-year spell with Bordeaux, the midfielder started his career with Monaco. Legwinski is known for his Matt Holland-style applauding of fans at the end of matches.

Made available on a free transfer by Fulham boss Chris Coleman, Legwinski looks to be a replacement for loanee Simon Walton when he returns to Charlton at the end of his month at Portman Road.
