Barron Recalled to Squad - Ipswich Town News

Full-back Scott Barron has been added to Town's squad for Saturday's trip to Birmingham as cover for Fabian Wilnis. The Dutchman aggravated his thigh injury in Tuesday's 2-1 home win over Coventry City and is considered a doubt.

Jim Magilton says that Barron deserves his recall: "Scott Barron has done well in recent weeks and has shown a good attitude and he deserves his place in the squad.

"Sito has also been excellent and he will provide one option if Fabian doesn't make it."

Wilnis will be assessed later today before a decision is made on whether he will play against the Championship leaders.

Town are already without central defender Alex Bruce who is unavailable as part of the deal which saw him move to Portman Road from the club managed by his father in the summer. Bruce serves his one-match suspension for amassing five bookings when Sunderland are at Portman Road next week.

The Blues are still without Owen Garvan and the Irishman is still several months away from a return due to the post-viral syndrome he developed after his summer bout of shingles.

Bruce's absence is likely to see Richard Naylor return to the starting line-up alongside Jason De Vos, while Sito will take over from Fabian Wilnis if the Dutchman misses out.

The midfield is unlikely to be changed from Tuesday with Matt Richards not even in the 18-man travelling party. Gavin Williams will be hoping to avoid picking up his fifth yellow card of the season.

Up front, Magilton will have to choose whether to continue with the Alan Lee and Jon Macken partnership which looked more promising against Coventry or bring Billy Clarke back into the starting line-up. Although all three of his senior goals have come as a substitute, the pacy 18-year-old was similarly impressive from the start at QPR.

Birmingham boss Steve Bruce is without his top-scoring striker Nicklas Bendtner. The loanee from Arsenal is suspended having been sent off in midweek.

Stephen Kelly has a calf problem and Mat Saddler has a groin injury and neither are likely to play.

Saturday's referee is Premiership official Howard Webb. The South Yorkshire referee has shown four yellow cards in each of his five games so far this season as well as two red. Webb's last Town game was the 4-3 home defeat to Nottingham Forest in April 2003.

Squad: Barron, Bowditch, Clarke, Currie, De Vos, Harding, Haynes, Lee, Legwinski, Macken, Naylor, Noble, Price, Sito, Supple, Walton, Williams, Wilnis.
