Reserves 3-1 Southend - Ipswich Town News

Darryl Knights scored twice as Town's reserves came from behind to defeat Southend 3-1 at Portman Road. The Shrimpers went ahead early on through Gary Hooper, but Jaime Peters hit back prior to Knights's brace, his second two-goal haul in a week.

Ex-Grays Athletic man Hooper struck after just 10 minutes, but Peters was on the scoresheet for the second time in four days on 20. The winger, who netted for Canada's U20s in their 2-1 win over the Czech Republic on Friday, cut in from the right and hit a shot across the keeper.

Knights, who also scored twice against Felixstowe and Walton last week, put the Blues ahead just after the break, beating first the offside trap and then the keeper.

Dean Bowditch created Knights's second, chasing down a ball the Southend defence had left for dead before crossing low to Knights who finished unchallenged.

Peters, Michael Synnott and Martin Brittain were amongst Town's best performers against a Southend side which included one-time England cap Michael Ricketts and Nigerian international centre-half Efetobore Sodje, who kept Jordan Rhodes very quiet.

Recent signing Ian Miller cut his head open once again and by the end looked like a badly packaged parcel.

Reserves: Plummer, Synnott, Barron, Moore, Miller, Krause (Smith), Brittain (Reason), Bowditch, Knights, Rhodes (Upson), Peters. Subs: Short, Fenn.

Thanks to Gary Abbott for being TWTD's man on the spot.
