Jim Interested in Titus - Ipswich Town News

Boss Jim Magilton says he would be interested in signing former team-mate Titus Bramble should the defender become available. Reports over the weekend claimed the Magpies would allow the former England U21 international to leave St James' Park for £500,000 in January.

While that fee, and Bramble's Premiership wages, would be well the Blues, Magilton says he would take the Town academy product on loan: "If there was a possibility of signing Titus I would do it right now. He is a quality defender who is playing at Premiership level and we know all about him."

Magilton says there have been no talks regarding the man signed from Town by Sir Bobby Robson for £4.5 million in the summer of 2002, but would speak to Glenn Roeder should the reports of his availability prove to be true and the player was interested in a return to Portman Road.

The Town manager has also confirmed that Crewe's David Vaughan was the subject of the Blues' interest in the Railwaymen's game with Blackpool on Saturday. Town had a scout at the match watching the Wales international midfielder in action.

Magilton says an immediate deal is unlikely: "He is someone I like and we have watched, but Crewe are not interested in doing a deal just yet. That may change, but we do now have GAry Roberts and he can do a similar job."

Vaughan, 23, was previously a target of Joe Royle during his time as Town boss.

Meanwhile, Danny Haynes has ended his successful one-month loan spell at Millwall in controversial circumstances.

The Town man sparked a clash between Millwall and Swansea players in his final game at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday, later apologising to Swans' Trinidad and Tobago international Dennis Lawrence for trying to take advantage of an uncontested drop ball after an injury to a Lions' player: "The ref said it was going to be a drop ball, we asked if he [Haynes] was going to give us the ball back and he said yes.

"Then all of a sudden he went on to try to score and in my view that's not the way you should play the game. It's as bad as any foul play.

"There was a bit of a melee because you don't want to see that sort of thing. We were clued in and stopped him and the ref saw it as well and booked him for ungentlemanly conduct.

"To be fair to the player, I spoke to him after the game and he said sorry, so it's gone now."

Elsewhere, the weekend reports of Everton watching Billy Clarke have now become claims of an imminent £2 million bid for the 18-year-old frontman. Clarke is contracted until June 2009 and the Blues would be highly unlikely to consider any offer at this stage of the Irishman's career.
