Nilsson Link - Ipswich Town News

Further to the Town/Giffarna Sundsvall exchange deal reported last week, Town are being linked with one of their players. U19 Sweden captain Per Nilsson may be on his way to Town as the first player to move as part of the deal between the two clubs.

We're yet to see any comment from Town on the matter, although we asked for comment at the end of last week. Town apparently had scouts at Sweden's U21 games with the Faroe Islands and Finland and Town representatives, amongst them presumably Swedish-based scout Simon Hunt, have been at the Swedish club.

Nilsson has been described as one of the best youngsters in Sweden with the bigger Swedish clubs like IFK Gothenburg regular watchers of Nilsson. He made his League debut at 17 and has been a regular ever since.

Giffarna club President Kjell Olofsson said of Town's interest in Nilsson: "It's a positive thing for the player. I think that Ipswich is a very professional club"

Of Town Olofsson said: "I think Ipswich behave a bit different from the other English clubs. They're not trying to be anything special. My impression of Ipswich is that they are extremely professional. We've had a contact ever since they came here and played us [pre-season friendly in 1998], but since Patrick [Walker Giffarna's current manager] came to us the contacts have been made more continuous."

Interestingly Town have been linked with Brian Steen Nielsen and David Nielsen in recent weeks. We wonder if someone had heard that we were interested in someone called Nielsen/Nilsson, but has been guessing at the wrong player.

We suspect we may hear something from Town on this early this week.
