His presence at Anfield has led to Reading's John Halls and Sam Sodje and Pool's Stephen Warnock and Gabriel Paletta being added to the list of potential targets.
Magilton hopes to unveil the new signing today ahead of Sunday's home game with Luton Town.
Elsewhere, Sergei Baltacha has become the latest former Blue to move to Charlton. The ex-USSR international has started coaching part-time with the Addicks' academy alongside a role as a PE teacher in London.
