Wales Waiting on Roberts - Ipswich Town News

TWTD understands that the Football Association of Wales are still waiting for Town loanee Gary Roberts to confirm his availability for the principality. Roberts is believed to qualify via a grandmother but the FAW are yet to receive confirmation of his eligibility.

Wales U21 boss Brian Flynn watched Roberts in action for Accrington Stanley back in February and was impressed with the 22-year-old: "He is someone we would consider as he has a lot of ability. What we need first is him to prove that he has Welsh relations and once that happens we will take it from there."

Roberts's move into the Championship with the Blues might have seen him get his first call into John Toshack's senior Wales squad for next week's friendly with Liechtenstein. However, the Welsh management are still awaiting proof of his qualification.

Roberts first caught the eye of the Welsh set-up during his time in League of Wales football after leaving Crewe Alexandra in 2004. The winger played for Bangor City, Rhyl and Welshpool Town prior to moving back to England with Accrington Stanley 18 months ago.

The former Liverpool trainee has already received some international recognition. Last season he won caps with the England National Game XI, the non-league England side. Caps at this level would not prevent the Chester-born player from appearing for Wales.
