Jim Denies Thompson Trip - Ipswich Town News
Boss Jim Magilton has denied that he travelled to Northern Ireland on Tuesday to watch Linfield striker Peter Thompson in action. A Belfast newspaper reported Magilton's intention to run the rule over the 22-year-old and even quoted the Town manager at length.
Magilton says there was no truth in the report: "It's absolute rubbish. I can only assume the newspaper in question heard I was coming over and put two and two together to come up with five.
"I am going to Belfast today. I have agreed to go to my old school, St Mary's Grammar, and to present prizes and say a few words at an awards ceremony.
"My trip has nothing to do with football. I am simply doing my old school a favour - but that doesn't mean I don't know about Peter Thompson.
"Most people in football know the kid because of his goals and there have been plenty of managers and scouts watching him."
Town watched Thompson in action earlier in the year during Joe Royle's time in charge at Portman Road, but Magilton says the Blues have never got as far as discussing a move with Linfield.
The Town boss is continuing to look for loan signings with former Blue Tommy Miller expected to make his return next week and a defender, primarily a right-back, also a target.
