Three Belgians Linked! - Ipswich Town News

Town are now being linked with three Belgian players, not just Bart Goor as reported yesterday. It seems that Genk's Marc Hendrikx and Tom Soetaers of Dutch club Roda JC Kerkrade are also players George Burley will be looking at on his intensive scouting tour over the next few days.

If he was at Elland Road last night he would have been impressed with Goor who created the Anderlecht goal and came close to scoring himself.

Goor is one of the highest rated players in Belgium, but it is being suggested that he might be out of Town's range if the ÂŁ5.5 million figure he is apparently valued at in Belgium is correct.

Of the other two targets Hendricx is a 26-year-old attacking midfielder who formerly played for Lommel. He doesn't sound the most prolific of players having scored just eight goals in the last three seasons, despite previous experience as a striker. He is a regular for the Belgian national side and is described as very versatile.

20-year-old Tom Soetaers is more of a forward player and is the youngest of the trio. The Belgian U21 cap joined his current club, Roda JC Kerkrade, at the beginning of this season and is under contract until 2005. Despite his club's high position in the Dutch League, 5th, the high wages and high profile of the Premiership may be tempting.

Of course, George Burley won't be signing all of them if any. As David Sheepshanks said last night we shouldn't read too much into any players we are linked with. However, it is good to keep an eye on the players who may become future Portman Road heroes.
