Upson Signs Contract - Ipswich Town News

Academy midfielder Ed Upson has signed his first professional deal with the club. Upson, who scored the winning goal in the 2005 FA Youth Cup final, has signed a two-year contract.

In December last year TWTD reported that Chelsea were keeping an eye on the midfielder, along with team-mate Jai Reason, and Upson confirmed to the club site that he had other options before committing to stay with Town in the summer: "I'm thrilled to have signed my first professional contract. It's an important step for me.

"I did have quite a few clubs interested in talking to me, but Ipswich was always the club I wanted to join.

"I've been here for a few years now and I like the way things are done at the club.

"You look at the likes of Billy Clarke, Owen Garvan and Danny Haynes and see where they are and that acts as an inspiration.

"That's the aim for me and if I can get anywhere near the first team squad this season then that would be a bonus."

Upson has been with the Town youth set-up since he was 12-years-old.
