O'Callaghan to Sign? - Ipswich Town News

Cork City chairman Brian Lennox has admitted that midfielder George O'Callaghan will leave his club during the January transfer window, but hints that Portman Road might not necessarily be his destination. O'Callaghan, 27, has been training with Town since September and the Blues look to be the favourites to sign him in the new year.

Lennox says a number of sides are interested in addition to Town: "The likelihood is that George will be staying in England. We are speaking with his agent, his family and with various clubs and we'll do what is good for George."

The former Port Vale man fell out with Cork boss Damien Richardson over a fine imposed on him by the Eircom League club and was placed on the transfer list in July. The Town management have previously suggested that the Blues could take him on loan in January, but Cork may want to negotiate a permanent deal.

O'Callaghan has recovered from a bout of shingles which saw him spend two days in hospital in October. At the time the illness was wrongly reported to be meningitis.
