Walton Apologises - Ipswich Town News

Midfielder Simon Walton has apologised for his red card at Derby on Wednesday evening. The loanee from Charlton picked up his second yellow card of the game for a wild lunge on Rams skipper Michael Johnson just before the hour mark.

Walton's first booking had come at the end of the first half and was for kicking the ball away to waste time rather than for the foul which led to the freekick.

The 19-year-old said: "I have apologised to everyone in the dressing room because with 11 players we would have won at least a point.

"It was a silly first booking and the second one I have seen worse challenges. But at the end of the day I have let everybody down.”

The former Leeds man was also unhappy with Johnson's reaction to his tackle: "I am not accusing the Derby player of cheating, but he went down as though he had been shot after I actually did little more than clip him. He appeared to me to be trying to make it worse and influence the referee."

Walton will miss Saturday's home game with Burnley with red cards taking effect immediately. Dan Harding is also out of the Clarets match having reached five bookings at Barnsley, while Alan Lee is out of the trip to Cardiff after receiving his fifth caution of the season at Derby.
