Wright On His Way? - Ipswich Town News

Wigan right-back David Wright is reported to be on his way to Portman Road today for talks regarding a £200,000 move to Town. Boss Jim Magilton has said on a number of occasions that he is keen to secure a new right-sided defender during the January transfer window.

Wright, out of contract at the JJB Stadium in the summer, has rarely been in the first team picture since making a £500,000 move from Crewe in June 2004. At the time, former Town manager Joe Royle was also interested in the Warrington-born defender, who can also play at centre-half.

Now 26, Wright has made only 30 starts in two-and-half-years with the Latics plus 19 sub appearances. In 2005 he spent a month on loan at Norwich where the 5ft 11in tall full-back made five starts.

Wright's only three senior goals came in his seven-year spell at Gresty Road during which time he made 234 starts and six appearances from the bench.
