Pollitt Joins Burnley - Ipswich Town News

Town loan target Mike Pollitt has agreed a one-month spell with Championship rivals Burnley. Just before Christmas, boss Jim Magilton told TWTD that he might look at bringing Pollitt back to Portman Road for a second spell during the transfer window.

Magilton said: "There might be a possibility of Mike Pollitt coming back. I liked his feel around the place in what was a big week for us, going into the derby.

"He brought that bit of composure and took a little bit of pressure off the other two. So there might be an opportunity to bring him in and if there is we could go down that route."

Pollitt was recalled to Wigan shortly after the 3-1 derby victory, his only appearance for the Blues.

Magilton is keen to add an experienced goalkeeper to his squad having loaned Pollitt and taken former Fulham keeper Jaroslav Drobný on a short-term contract. The Czech is currently on trial at VfL Bochum in the Bundesliga.

Meanwhile, Bury have denied that striker Andy Bishop has a clause in his contract which would allow him to leave Gigg Lane for £200,000. Town have watched the 24-year-old in action and have been linked with a move for the ex-York City man, along with local rivals Norwich City.

Bury boss Chris Casper says Bishop is unaffected by talk of a possible move to the Championship: "He has not let the speculation get to him, and has just worked hard."

Bishop signed an 18-month contract with the Shakers when he joined them from the Minstermen last summer.

Sunderland's Jon Stead has joined Sheffield United in a deal eventually worth £1 million after being linked with the Blues yesterday.

Former Blue Tommy Miller's move to Preston looks to be in jeopardy with the Lilywhites apparently unable to match the terms of his Sunderland contract.

Preston boss Paul Simpson said: "He joined Sunderland on Premiership wages - we may not be able to agree anything.

"It is not about the fee, but the personal terms which might be difficult to arrange. I'm not sure we will be able to achieve anything this month."

Town pulled out of a loan bid for Miller at the last minute in November as they already had five loan players at the club, the limit that can be fielded in any one game.

The Blues could show further interest in the penalty expert, especially if they fail to agree a deal with Cork City for George O'Callaghan.
