Welsh Want Williams? - Ipswich Town News

Somewhat unconvincing reports in Wales claim that midfielder Gavin Williams is being eyed by both Swansea and Cardiff. Meanwhile, Town boss Jim Magilton is said to be looking for new strikers on the continent.

A Welsh tabloid claims the Swans have made their interest in Williams known to Town, but were told the Blues rate the 26-year-old at £500,000, a figure well beyond them. Cardiff and Coventry are also claimed to be watching the Wales international closely.

While Town boss Jim Magilton revealed interest in Williams a week ago, it would be a huge surprise if the Blues were to consider a move for the midfielder, one of this season's top performers. Likewise, it would be a shock if Williams, contracted to Town until 2009, was interested in a switch to a League One club.

Meanwhile, Jim Magilton is reported to be making one or more trips to the continent this week to check out foreign strikers. The Town manager is keen to add a frontman to his squad during the transfer window.

SPL side Dunfermline appear to have given up their pursuit of Town target George O'Callaghan. Manager Stephen Kenny says that contrary to reports his club have not made an offer for the Cork City midfielder: "We never made a bid for the player, we just asked to be kept informed.”

Barnsley have signed striker Leon Constantine from Port Vale for £120,000 plus Tykes frontman Marc Richards. Constantine was linked with the Blues earlier in the month, although appeared an unlikely Jim Magilton target.

Former Blues Richard Wright and Tony Mowbray are being linked with a reunion at West Brom. The former Town skipper, now the Baggies boss, is apparently keen on taking the keeper, out of contract at Everton in June, to the Hawthorns before the end of the month.

Striker Billy Clarke has been named as one of 10 players to watch in the future by the Irish Sunday Independent. Also mentioned are former Town targets Daryl Murphy and Paul McShane.
