Pablo Linked With Return - Ipswich Town News

Spanish reports claim that Pablo Couñago's agent has told the striker's current club Malaga that Town and several sides in Spain are showing interest in the former Blue. Couñago was released by Town at the end of the 2004/05 season.

The 27-year-old is currently out of action with a pulled muscle, however, his agent claims he is a transfer window target of a number of clubs. Malaga are reported to want to hold on to the former Spanish U21 international.

Couñago's first season back in Spain ended with his side dropping out of La Liga, the former Town man making 28 appearances and scoring three goals. This year in the Spanish second division Couñago has scored four times in 13 games.

With his Malaga contract up at the end of June, the striker is likely to be available on a free transfer or for a small fee. However, his wage requirements would have to be significantly down on his previous earnings with the Blues for the reports of renewed Town interest to have any truth in them.

Fans' favourite Couñago moved to Portman Road in the summer of 2001 on a Bosman free transfer from Celta Vigo and was understood to be on wages approaching the £20,000-a-week mark.
