D'Avray in for Butcher? - Ipswich Town News
Ex-Town striker Mich D'Avray says he's keen to succeed former team-mate Terry Butcher as the head coach of Australian A-League side Sydney FC. Butcher was sacked yesterday after Sydney were dumped out of the end-of-season finals series.
D'Avray was a highly successful head coach with the Perth Glory prior to the restructuring of Australian football which led to the formation of the A-League in 2005/06. The South African-born former England U21 international switched to a position as technical director with the Glory, but last summer his contract was not renewed.
The 44-year-old says he's the man to take over from his old Portman Road skipper: "If the situation is vacant, I'm available. It's the biggest job in Australian football but so was Perth Glory for many years.
"Perth Glory were always the team that everyone wanted to beat and there was always pressure."
