Collins Extends Deal - Ipswich Town News

Released Town defender Aidan Collins has extended his contract with Conference side Cambridge United until the end of the season. Collins joined the U's on a non-contract basis last month having been told he had no future with Town.

The 20-year-old has impressed manager Jimmy Quinn in his three appearances since moving to the Abbey Stadium: "I'm delighted Aidan has signed a contract and we've got his services to the end of the season. I think he's been our best defender since he came in and he's done very well.

"He's very dominant in the air, he's a threat in both boxes and he's been at a top club in Ipswich Town.

"He's been a bit unfortunate with the injuries to the tendons of his knees so we have to nurse him along and he can't train every day. He has to balance it with the right amount of rest, but he's done very well and long may that continue.

"He's a fantastic addition to the team and if everything works out I hope he will stay with us next season.

"I know Aidan has aspirations to get back into the Football League and, if he continues to play like he is, then that may be a possibility, but if he puts in great performances between now and the end of the season, then hopefully I can persuade him to stay with us next season because getting back into the Football League is what we want to do too."

Collins made three starts and two sub appearances for the Blues after progressing through the academy.
