Bruce on Standby - Ipswich Town News

Defender Alex Bruce is on standby for the full Republic of Ireland squad for the European Championship qualifiers at home to Wales on Saturday and in Slovakia next Wednesday. Bruce qualifies for the Republic via his grandmother.

The former Birmingham man, who has previously won U21 and B caps, told the club site that he is delighted even to be in with a chance of a full cap: "Playing international football is one of my ambitions and it's a great thrill to be on standby for the squad. I'll be waiting by the phone!"

Saturday's game with Wales will be the first ever soccer international played at Croke Park, the home of the Gaelic games.
