Roberts a New Doubt - Ipswich Town News

Midfielder Gary Roberts has emerged as a new doubt ahead of Saturday's home game with Plymouth after straining a groin in training. The former Accrington man's condition will be looked at during training today and tomorrow before a decision is made on his fitness.

Town are already without Richard Naylor, out for the season with a toe injury, and Sylvain Legwinski, whose foot injury is a broken metatarsal which will keep him out of action until pre-season.

Better news is that Jason De Vos is back in training, although the Canadian is by no means certain to play against the Pilgrims having picked up another foot problem against Luton. Ian Miller, recalled from loan at Darlington last weekend, could make his Town debut alongside Alex Bruce if the Blues skipper fails to make it.

David Wright is expected to play at left-back — Dan Harding being unavailable due to suspension — having been away from the club for 10 days on compassionate leave after suffering a family bereavement.

Legwinski's absence and Roberts's possible unavailability could see academy midfielder Jai Reason called into the squad for the first time. Boss Jim Magilton considered giving the 17-year-old a first team debut in the Carling Cup tie at Peterborough at the beginning of the season but in the end went with more experienced players.

Loan striker Franny Jeffers is back at Portman Road and could be back in full training in a week's time after making a speedy recovery from his hamstring injury. Depending on his progress and Blackburn, Town will extend the one-time man's loan, which is up after Saturday, for another two months.

Chris Casement starts his one-month loan at Millwall today, his spell with the Lions having been delayed by a knee injury suffered while with the Northern Ireland U21s at the weekend.
