Upson Linked - Ipswich Town News

Arsenal defender Matthew Upson has been linked with Town after he spoke of his dissatisfaction with his time at Arsenal. This is by no means the first time that he has been linked with Town. Upson is very much regarded as one who got away as he played in the same youth side as Richard Wright and Kieron Dyer.

Upson joined Luton as a youngster and moved to Arsenal after making only a handful of appearances. Since his move opportunities have been limited partly due to a long-term cruciate ligament injury. However, he returned from this early this season, but again has been on the sidelines. Upson, who played in the England U21s 4-0 debacle on Tuesday, said he is "extremely frustrated" and when asked how long he was prepared to wait around at Arsenal he answered: "Not long".

Whether Town might be interested or not is quite another matter. A number of Town's backline are getting on a bit. Mark Venus is 35 and John Scales is 34 so there may be interest in bringing in a younger central defender by the beginning of next season. But it's all speculation at the moment...

Jim Magilton was in the Northern Ireland side which lost 4-0 at home to Norway. The game was marred by loyalists booing Celtic midfielder Neil Lennon throughout the first half. He was replaced at half-time and left the ground reportedly very upset at the fans' behaviour.

Former Town player Danny Sonner was among the substitutes.
